Re: Official Wii U Discussion Thread V: W11

Brief Summary

The Wii U is Nintendo's newest console that is set to come out this year. More powerful than its predecessor the Wii, the Wii U will be able to play games in high definition. It also has a new controller with a touch-screen for further interactivity with the games for more enjoyment.

In addition, the Wii U will be fully backwards compatible with prior games released for the Wii and its controllers. However, it WILL NOT be backwards-compatible with Gamecube discs. The discs for the Wii U will be 25 GB in size.

The console comes in two variations, the premium model (black) and the basic model (white) which are told apart by their colour scheme. The only real difference between the two models outside of what's bundled with the console is that the Premium comes with 32GB internal flash memory as opposed to the basic's 8GB, however the Wii U is compatible with external HDDs and can support 2 USB devices at a time.

Specs:

CPU: POWER PC Based IBM Tri-Core Microprocessor (Propriety based in the same family as the Broadway CPU)
GPU: AMD Custom HD GPU (Propriety built to Nintendo's needs seems to not be based on any current GPU)
RAM: 2GB

Controller

image

As mentioned previously, the controller has an interactive touchscreen that can be used with both your hands or stylus. It features motion control as well a built in mic which can be utilized for voice chat, the controller is compatible with almost any headset and headphones that fit the jack even though the U has an official set co-developed by Turtle Beach.

The controller is not a stand alone device. It requires the Wii U console (pictured at the top) to be used. It will not work with a Wii or as a portable Tablet or Handheld once very far from the console.

Nintendo Network

The U has an online network which is account based, accounts (which are known as NNIDs) are locked onto the console's unique ID number once created and can not be moved to another console and a console can support up to 10 accounts. Anything bought on one account becomes available to all other accounts on the same console. NNIDs are required to go online with games, use Miiverse and access the Wii U's eShop.

Miiverse (portmanteau of "Mii" and "Universe") is a communication system or social network created by Nintendo and Hatena and powered by the Nintendo Network, which allows players to interact and share their experiences through their own Miis. The service will be available through Nintendo Network for the Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, PC, Tablets, and Smartphones.

Miiverse will allow users to seamlessly share accomplishments, comments, and hand written notes with other users. Miiverse will be integrated into the system menu of the Wii U, but social interactions can also occur within supported games. You can also suspend your game to access Miiverse functions, and then jump right back into your game. Nintendo's president Satoru Iwata stated that Miiverse will be monitored through software as well as a human resource team in order to ensure that the content shared by users is approporiate and that no spoilers are shared, as such comments posted can take up to 30 minutes to appear on Miiverse.

However, at this time, it is only possible to create a Nintendo Network ID on a Wii U console. (This is different from a Club Nintendo account ID.) A 3DS version of Miiverse is also in the works, although a release date was not confirmed. Mizuki said unlike the Wii U, on which all games have Miiverse support, there will be existing games and apps on the 3DS that won't be Miiverse compatible.

I softmodded my Wii so I can finally get Trauma Team (no PAL), and with that I will get Under the Knife 2 for DS too which tbh I completely forgot that exists (no PAL either) and only saw it when I loked up prices for Team (surprisingly cheap, cheaper than UtK2).
But your game idea would be totally M rated, and cool. But I would be happy with just any new Trauma Center, Wii U or 3DS I don't care.

I soft modded mine for the NES/SNES emulators, along with the media player. The only Wii games I copied were Manhunt 2 and Day of Crisis or whatever that game was. Manhunt 2 I had already owned; I just wanted the uncensored, patched version. Day of Crisis was never released in the states.
I do wanna download Fatal Frame 4 to see what the fuss was about but never got around to it. One of the things I love though is the N64 emulator has the option to alter the controls. So I made TUROK use duel analogs and modern shooting buttons. OMG That made the game so much more awesome. Totally going to do it gfor classic GoldenEye one day.

No I really only did it for the region lock, not gonna do anything else with it.
But damn thanks for reminding me about Fatal Frame 4, gonna get this now, it's expensive but fuck it.

That was one of the greatest Threadbot posts I've seen.

Holy shit Threadbot is back

I think we'll only get trailers for;

SMT x Fire Emblem
Retro's Project (heavily hinted at by Nintendo)
Smash Bros IV
Yoshi's Yarn
X
SMT IV,

But everything else will be playable.

It's a damned impressive list that will be tough for Nintendo's competitors to beat this E3.

GTA is one of a few sandbox games I actually buy so I fin this encouraging although last year Reggie said something about there being a good chance GTAV comes to the U and this sort of falls in line with that if it's been tested for a while.

The Wii U could probably be the reason why Gta 5 was delayed all the way to September. I can see the gamepad to be used to access radio stations, smartphones and weapons.

Could be the reason for the delay -then again- Rockstar have delayed almost every GTA game

I might buy it on the Wii U only if it will be released on the same day as the PS3/360 versions and if it has some decent gamepad features.

earthmanbrick:
Who knows, if Rockstar got good sales figures via the WiiU then they might remake Body Harvest!

OMG that would be so awesome *_*

If they show that it's a step up from the borefest that was GTAIV, and comes out on Wii U with some good features.. Then I'm there.

So now we have a new thread.
You feel different ? image

I cant wait to see more of Monolith Soft's game. Every time I watch the trailer I get goosebumps.

I know it's tough to judge, but if the new Franklin and Michael trailers are anything to go by, these new stories feel like they're going to be FAR more interesting.

And no, I'm not blinded by jamming to Radio Gaga image image

If the rumours are true, I would 100% buy GTAV on the Wii U!

thesnowdog:
The trailer for X has had its colour saturation fixed here on YouTube.

By the time this game is finished it's going to have jaw dropping visuals considering this is probably pre-Alpha footage. Am REALLY looking forward to this one!!!

Ow.. my eyes actually hurt watching that.. didn't think it could look any better.. and this was on a phone.. I'm afraid to watch it on my Wii U or even computer later.. =\ then again I mistook the link title for Dragon Quest X XP

Supposedly the wii U has been hacked by "wiiKey," I just hope the online protection is up to par this time around.

Even worse news, Madded 25 is nothing coming out for the Wii U.

I keep saying it but we need another video game crash to get rid of EA.

Region free will be a good thing and I always wanted to play that New Super Mario mod that they did but I won't do it if it will risk my console / ID to be banned.

So they released Pacman and Megaman on VC on Wii U today. Damn.. when do I get my Link to the Past and Secret of Mana :/
Also.. wth, shooting on Megaman is on b? That's where the jump button should be. Good think you can change the controls like you want them to.

Mega Man Miiverse is up. Here's our chance to get Capcom our attention.

i can haz mega man legends 3?

Got my Wii U and I'm really liking it.

This is probably not an issue for single language countries but it sucks that the eShop VC doesn't directly say what language the game is and I accidently bought the French version of Kirby's Adventure instead of the English one.

Here's to next 300 pages!!! image

Oh ya I do!

Anyways, I really hope GTA V gets on Wii U because It seems like all third parties have given up on the Wii U as of right now, especially EA ( still butthurt over Origin).

I think you'll be safe enough, Kirby isn't exactly known for its heavy dialogues or substantial script. image
