Gizmodo has got their hands on a photograph (pic right) of a prototype phone running Google's Android Open Mobile operating system. According to the report, the phone itself looks like it may have been manufactured by HTC. Looks ok to me.

Open Handset Alliance released an early look Android SDK and announced a competiton for app makers. Out of the box the software supports touchscreen, 3G, accelerated 3D graphics and has a webkit-based browser.

Ok, this is old news I know. Reading the Businessweek article from 2005 brings today's news full circle. This 2 year old article announces that Google made a low-key bid for Android, a small but powerful team of engineers who design software for mobile phones.
