I play SNES games one my Wii, on my HD tv and they look great in full screen. 16 bit sprites have aged very well. I was looking forward to play them on that gamepad screen but i don't like black borders, i find them distracting.

It's not that the graphic gets worse, but stretching turns circles into elipses and squares into rectangles, characters get fatter and to me it just feels wrong.

looks ugly.

Capcom recently released their fiscal performance report, detailing which titles have done well for the publisher. Within it, Capcom stated that the biggest surprise for them was the sales of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate on Wii U and that it's the latest title to join their "smash hits". The interesting thing is that Capcom notes most sales didn't come from physical purchases, but rather digital downloads of the titles.

The borders aren't noticable. Would look pretty nasty without them,

When you guys play VC games on the Wii U trough your TV screen its stretched too, you don't play A link to the past on a small square inside your HD screen. It would or should downsample by using the smaller screen of the gamepad creating an even better effect.

It's not the size that matters, it's the ratio. It would flatten everything.

Anyway, it is still possible to play it in full screen on the Wii U by setting your ratio in 4:3 in the system configurations.

They should still have gotten away around it since they were "optimizing" them for the Wii U or at least give us the option for those who prefer stretched to black borders like the Ps3\Psp\Vita does.

I know, I'm personally really glad it is 4:3 unlike the Wii was but I think they should have given you the option as well. It doesn't take any effort for them to do so. But like I said you technically can play it stretched.

You can play it stretched on the gamepad or just TV?

Just the TV.

Okay, so this is INCREDIBLE NEWS: the recent Wii U update has increased that clock speed that crumpled many carls earlier this year.

http://www.vg247.com/2013/05/10/wii-u-latest-system-update-has-increased-cpu-gpu-speed-rumour

CPU: IBM PowerPC 7xx-based tri-core processor "Espresso" clocked at 1.24 GHz before the 3.0.0 update, 3.24 GHz after the 3.0.0 update. This is an evolution to the Broadway chip used in the Wii, is 64 bit and uses Power6 technote When IBM has said that Nintendo has licensed the Power7 tech from IBM, Nintendo is not using it for the Wii U, explaining its backwards compatibility.

GPU: AMD Radeon High Definition processor codenamed "Latte" with an eDRAM cache built onto the die clocked at 550 MHz before the 3.0.0 update, 800 MHz after the 3.0.0 update.

Dmolisher has a thread on this, as Me and Synite pointed out they can increase the clock speed but not to that much unless the propriety CPU was heavily underclocked (we're aware it was underclocked the large heat sink also points to this but to go to 3.24 would mean it was dropped significantly under it's average performance output at launch). So to put simply it is possible the speed was increased possibly bigger then a normal overclock would allow for a console but not to 3.24GHz unless the was a big underclock.

The GPU part of things in the rumour looks normal and is well with in possibility.

Sorry bout that didn't even see the thread! And I accidentally made one in GG thinking it hasn't been posted.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the PSP overclocked after a similar update? I don't know how credible this source is since it's still considered a rumour but apparently this came from a TVTropes forum which was pulled from homebrewers and 2ch.
/v/ seems to be thinking of ways in which this may be possible:

Most games last generation were single-threaded and depended on a very high clockspeed. The WiiU, PS4, and next Xbox have all moved to highly parallel processors 6 threads for the WiiU, 8 threads for the PS4, and 4? threads for the new Xbox, with lower clockspeeds to compensate.

What they might have done is given the WiiU an update that will allow it to disable all but one core and then use the increased thermal headroom to clock that core up while cutting the number of possible threads to 2 which shouldn't matter for old engines since the PS3 limited them to a single general purpose thread."

"This seems like it could be true. I remember about a year ago devs were saying that their dev kits for Wii U were deliberately underclocked. Maybe the system launched that way because of early titles being built for those specs?"

Some aren't so convinced:
"The CPU in the WiiU is tiny, and Power 750 cores barely draw any power at all. The die size is 32.76mm2. Its fucking tiny, and could barely produce any heat given the voltages that small PPC cores work at.
Though this clock speed is extremely dubious. Even at 1.24ghz thats still one of the singularly fastest Power 750 chips ever made. 3ghz is absolutely unheard of for the arch. Frankly is sounds like pure bullshit'."

The are many factors I'll try an keep this as simple as possible, the U CPU is a propriety so no one at the moment can really say what it can do people are basing the skeptical side of things on it being from a current CPU family when things aren't that straight forward as it's not a current CPU that's customized it's a ground up unit for the GC and Wii Broadway family which was based on PowerPC and such. The flipside is that an increase in speed means more voltage and heat which the U hasn't spiked in which means if the is a speed increase the console would have to have been heavily underclocked to remain unchanged for a jump to 3.24GHz. It's a big jump for a console they'd literally have to have known the console would be fine before hand.

The PSP did have an increase in an update, it was a game to game basis code though were games could utilize certain coding for unlocking extra performance it's is possible this has been done on the U.

At the moment I doubt any possible increase to 3.24GHz took place as that's an abnormally high jump for a non-PC platform, an increase is possible but not on that level unless the console was more underclocked then thought and we know less of the CPU then thought. Won't write it off as the U's GPU and CPU are both something not even PCs have seen in how they're designed but I'm skeptical.

Hmmm thank you very much you've been very helpful.

Clockspeed has very little to do in performance unless their in the same family. The Espresso doesn't really need 3.2ghz because of the short pipeline stages on the PowerPC 7xx. Plus it will have overheating issues.

I'm going to check to see if true in the Skies of Arcadia level in Sonic and All star racing.

It doesn't seems far-fetched when the 750 can be clocked to 1.1ghz. Also the system's fan got louder after the update.

Watch Dogs info

- Been in development for four years
- Team has placed a big focus on the NPCs' behavior and personalities
- You'll be involved with other events when not on a main mission
- Bios flash for a few moments as you pass NPCs
- Examples: "refuses to cycle", "trolls religious forums"
- Hack into phones, scroll through text messages and tap into conversations, with relevant locations relating to what was discussed marked on the map for later inspection
- Game doesn't have "a bunch of minions creating personalities one after another"
- NPCs themselves are the product of another system.
- "Every backstory, every look - it's based on a database. Some of the population will dynamically end up in certain scenarios based upon their personalities, but you'll never see a mugging, for example, happen in the same way twice."
- Won't be bombarded with side-content
- Another system controls how much of it is doled out, depending on how often you participate in it
- The game's main narrative arc remains under wraps, but there are hints that player interaction in side-missions will draw parallels with the way that Aiden Pearce personally becomes more obsessed and drawn into the actions of Chicago's population
- Two types of hacking abilities: small-scale actions and larger-scale actions
- Small-scale: scanning passers-by, disabling a nearby car's security system, etc.
- Larger-scale: access the city-wide Central Operating System (CTOS)
- Access CTOS district-by-district by storming local datacentres
- With CTOS access, Pearce can use the city's surveillance technology to identify new side-missions and follow-up on potential crimes
- Side-content isn't always about crimes
- One sequence has you gaining access to a local W-iFi hub and peering into someone's home
- Watch Dogs will also include opportunities for you to interact with other human players in your single-player game
- "Say you're playing alone, free-roaming. There's a bunch of activities you can activate. Sometimes - and you won't know when - the objective that you have is related to what someone else is doing at the same time. When that happens we merge your reality with the other person's, and you'll be able to see them."
- Ex: spy on another hacker; it's a real player carrying out an objective within their own game who had unknowingly become part of your city
- Sometimes you will be told if another player will be watching you during these objectives, sometimes you won't
- Multiplayer mode planned
- Expected to take 80 hours to complete everything in the game
- Access a smartphone full of apps to activate contracts, drop glyphs for friends to find, or look up a tune playing on a nearby radio
- Version of iTunes lets you buy new apps and games with in-game money
- No micro-transactions
- AR shooter mini-game sees nearby NPCs attacked by purple Metroid-esque aliens, with high scores recorded on global leaderboards
- A number of ideas were cut, team is saving the list for the future

How's the acceleration of NFS Most Wanted on the gamepad ?
Do you floor it as soon as you push the button or how does that work ?

Two of Electronic Arts' top-level executives have collectively unloaded a total of 57,085 stocks, following a general increase in EA's stock value after this week's Star Wars exclusivity announcement. According to SEC forms filed yesterday, EA Sports executive vice president Andrew Wilson has sold his entire stake in the company: 32,085 shares at $21.42 a pop, for a grand total of $687,260.70.

EA senior vice president and General Counsel Stephen Bene followed suit, today exercising an option to buy 25,000 shares from EA at $16.06 per share for $401,500 in total, well below the current market value. Bene then sold those shares for $22.40 each, making $560,000. After subtracting the amount originally spent when the option to buy the shares was exercised, Bene made a net profit of $158,500. Unlike Wilson, Bene is still in possession of 6,700 shares of EA, according to SEC documents.

This is confusing.

Any idea of the total number of shares the company had prior to the new issues?

None

So Insomniac games games says Wii U is current gen.
On that bombshell it is official and you can't call it biased cause they left Sony since they bought Mm instead of them.

They said they see it more of a current gen console. And they put it in the form of an opinion. People can have opinions and opinions are never bombshells.

Specially an opinion on such a redundant matter.

I'm surprised that they've only been releasing one to two VC games per week since it launched. That's really disappointing, although I've bought at least one each week. XD

Technically it is current gen anyway because it's now out on the market. when PS4 and 720 come out they will be current gen too

http://www.nintendo-insider.com/2013/05/12/precursor-games-welcome-eternal-darkness-re-release/

Having last week announced a crowdfunding campaign to develop a spiritual successor to the game, Precursor Games have expressed that they would love to see a digital re-release of Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem.

In response to a community question through their Facebook page, a fan had suggested that the independent developer speak to Nintendo about introducing GameCube titles to the Wii U's Virtual Console, therefore granting those that haven't played the original the opportunity to do so.

In a short response, they wrote "We will definitely discuss that. Thanks for the suggestion!"

Make it happen Nintendo!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It doesn't bother me honestly but I got so much shit for saying the same opinion and it carries more weight when someone like the CEO of such a talented and well respected studio say the same thing.

I think what matters is that we got a new and interesting piece of hardware that opens up new possibilities. And honestly Nintendo has more room to expand in many ways than for instance Sony or MS which are kinda closing in on the threshold.

Personally i think console wise the Wii U is the coolest console nintendo has ever launched and its a shame it didn't come with a kick ass 3D mario like the N64, which makes everyone extra excited.

Well, it is a fact that the Wii U is an 8th gen system, so this opinion is wrong, it's pretty simple actually hahaha.

I absolutely agree on everything but the piece about Sony cause Sony is literally kicking ass right now.
