Wondering if anyone is aware of RadeonPro and now Bandicam's use of AMD's hardware H264 encoder in video capture. Being tooted as the Red answer to Shadowplay.

Available in "certain" cards since the 7970 released.

Except that bandicam is absolute shit and is rated one of the absolute worst recording programs available.

Good choice AMD....

So how are the higher end cards compared to the likes of the 7950/7970? Worthwhile upgrades or nah?

280x is just a rebranded 7970 right?

i went from a 6850 cfx setup to the R9 290, so that leap is kind of huge here.

if you got a 7970 and doing fine, i wouldn't personally feel a need to upgrade before next series but that's just me.

those lucky bunch of people, i doubt half of them realized the value that were being given to them xD

on topic of the new amd cards, the 13.12 seems to finally fix the r9 290(x) problems.

since my upgrade i once or two a week had bsod crashes with no real information, which by search ended up around the r9 290(x) having those problems, and strangely enough always had something to do with youtube (flashplayer).

haven't had a single crash since 13.12, which is good because i was about to consider RMA the card and just get a regular 780 gtx, lol.

And here we were thinking AMD driver issues were a myth and only belonged to the past.

Who are AMD peasants trying to fool again?

well the issue was with the r9 290(x) only, also since it has been fixed, it is actually just a past thing again, no?

I guess 4GB of gorgeous 512 bit gddr5 ram is just too strong.

On another note.

sapphire is about to release it's 3 fan of r9 290 and r9 290x.

hmm, maybe should have waited any way, looks gorgeous.

oh boy, glad I decided to wait on getting a new GPU. this thing looks awesome and they improved on the original specs

OH my god that Sapphire version is to die for. I want it so bad, I need a job lol.

I think the Sapphire R9 290 tri-x is the best video card right now (price/performance is fantastic!)

Its amazing how the performance of the R290 Tri-x is very close to the GTX 780ti and the 290X yet the R290Tri-x cost $250 less

Those Russian guys from HardwareCanucks are the best.

Sapphire R9 290 review! $150 cheaper than the R9 290X and$200 cheaper than the GTX 780TI

shit... should have waited for the sapphire tri.

oh well, guess i'll get myself the cooler mod fans instead, have done it once before.

For those that don't like their reference coolers, consider this:

Excellent news

AMD could counter Nvidia's G-Sync with simpler, free sync tech

http://techreport.com/news/25867/amd-could-counter-nvidia-g-sync-with-simpler-free-sync-tech

CES - During an impromptu meeting in a hotel ballroom this morning, I got an eye-opening demo orchestrated by AMD Graphics CTO Raja Koduri. He had a pair of relatively inexpensive laptops sitting side by side running a simple graphics demo showing a windmill with the blades in motion. One of the laptops was using traditional vsync, only refreshing the display at a fixed rate, and the quantization effect of the fixed refresh cycle introduced obvious roughness into the animation. On the other laptop, however, the motion was much smoother, with no apparent tearing or slowdowns-much like you'd see from Nvidia's G-Sync technology.

So it's a software Tech?

But man that's great news, especially the part of it not being exclusive.

Most people i see around web are saying it does not compare to gsync ahd has flaws. People who seen both in person.

R9 290 Tri-X is a decent card for the price; the benches on previous page however

Metro LL @1080p - 79 fps > http://i.minus.com/ibbk3exYdYTL1Z.png
Metro LL @1440p - 56 fps > http://i.minus.com/ieQlwPzITfGrQ.png
and Sleep Dogs @1080p - 126 fps > http://i.minus.com/iPtKPYxaiRgJy.png

Proof in links provided! 280x being above 780 was too obvious so had to do a run and as you can see the scores on previous page are so fake its too funny.

wow really? 2-3 fps difference

R9 290 Tri-X is a briliant card for the price, similar performance as the 780ti and cost $200 less...

You have SSAA : OFF and advanced physX: Disabled.

I guess thats because I wanted to use identical settings

LoL @280x

hmmm, the sapphire tri finally reached Denmark but i guess i don't need to be sad about not waiting for it, because the price difference between that and what i gave for a reference 290, makes up for the price of a mod kit for the 290 gpu cooling.

good for me, because had it cost the same as my ref 290, i would have been a little salty, lol.

Yea software! I hope it works well. We don't need bad business practices from those GPU companies, where they force you to buy an expensive monitor for their solution. Good idea? maybe for their pockets but not for us....

Anyway....Check out the new non reference 290X card from MSI

Video

do want.

Okay, that Lightning is one sexy chunk of a GPU. Might look into getting a pair, though God knows I won't be investing in 4k before we get good refresh rates monitors on the market.

They say that the performance of Mantle scales with the CPU, if so this is amazing.

Apparently, BF4 sees 45% performance increase with Mantle.

And one guy ported the whole engine to Mantle in two months? Sounds legit.

Very nice! Hope to see some legit benchmarks.

interesting video, laughed when the guy said, "i can see with the mantle it runs around 30 fps...", meanwhile the footage showing 56-58 fps.

well if this is what mantle is capable of and does indeed work better than expected, i guess it's time for MS to crank up the media storm to slam it down, because that will be their only chance, Mantle ties in well with SteamOS, if it gets supported more, which would be grand.

Since Mantle is going to support Nvidia cards too, i guess Nvidia couldn't care less.

Mantle just increasing gains is a bit boring tbh, I'd rather see API specific features that DX doesn't have.

ITS A TRAP:

well certain limits that exist through the shitty DX, aren't in the mantle.

Also it's new, just it being direct feed to the GPU alone is huge compared to the draconian means of DX.

Give it time, with a lot of abundance resources left for use, devs will probably start tinkering with new strange features.

It could alone help with AI complexity after all.

@burgundy, Yea!

AMD's Catalyst 14.1 Beta Drivers Will Bring Mantle Support & Frame Pacing Enhancements

Zol.com.cn (chinese website) has leaked some slides from AMD's upcoming Catalyst 14.1 Beta driver. According to the slides, this new driver is expected to hit the Internet in Q1 2014 and will come with Mantle support, as well as numerous frame pacing enhancements.

Although there is no ETA as of yet, we expect to see this driver popping out soon after - or before - Battlefield 4?s Mantle patch gets rolled out.

AMD Catalyst 14.1 Beta will feature 4K and Eyefinity support for non-XDMA hardware, dual graphics support for frame pacing, AMD TrueAudio support, as well as new distribution support for Linux.

Kudos to Guru3D's member 'SlackerITGuy' for spotting these slides.
