10 New Pop Tracks We're Thankful For This Thanksgiving
On this day, we're thankful for Selena, Nicki, Queen Bey and more...
Happy American Thanksgiving, y'all! What are you thankful for today? We want to give our thanks to the pop stars who are getting the holiday party season started with some seriously catchy singles. Count down the best new tracks we're thankful for!
10. "Feel Right", Mark Ronson ft. Mystikal
Why we're thankful: Thanks for bringing back the funk, Mark Ronson! The UK producer has already hit it out of the park with "Uptown Funk" ft. Bruno Mars, but we gotta give thanks to Ronson for bringing rapper Mystikal out of the fog to spit rhymes on this late-70s-inspired single.
9. "Gimme A Chance", Azealia Banks
Why we're thankful: The last thing we expected from rap prodigy (and frequent Twitter slammer) Azealia Banks was...an album! Finally, her first-ever LP has hit the shelves, and our fave track off the collection is definitely "Gimme A Chance." Not only did we not expect a release from her this year — we didn't expect a trumpet-blaring Spanglish jam from the outspoken songstress!
8. "Zombie", Jamie T
Why we're thankful: Jamie T is considered one of this generation's greatest UK singer-songwriters, and after SEVEN years with no new album, 2014's Carry On The Grudge arrived and is now on dozens of publications' Best Of The Year list. We're thankful for "Zombie" because it's the fun, fast-paced song about the undead we never knew we needed.
7. "Comeback", Ella Eyre
Why we're thankful: Each and every year, it's kind of impossible to avoid the cliche breakup anthem from a pop starlet. Ella Eyre's single "Comeback," however, is a soul-infused kick-him-to-the-curb foot-stomper we CANNOT. STOP. PLAYING. Nice debut, Ella!
6. "Pray To God", Calvin Harris ft. HAIM
Why we're thankful: "Summer" was great and all, Calvin, but let's get serious here...that song is clearly made for the warmer months. Now that it's chilly out there, we needed a banger that only Harris & HAIM could deliver, and this is IT.
5. "Froot", Marina and The Diamonds
Why we're thankful: One of our favorite unconventional pop stars, miss Marina and The Diamonds, is back to capture our hearts once again with the disco-tinged "Froot." We're thankful we got new music from Marina just in time for the holidays!
4. "Meltdown", Stromae + Lorde + Pusha T + Q-Tip + HAIM
Why we're thankful: As soon as we first heard the opening track for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 — curated by Lorde herself — we knew this was gonna be one of our fave jams of the year. The pulsating groove lays the foundation for a talented collection of artists that we would never put together ourselves, but IT WORKS.
3. "Hey Mama", David Guetta ft. Nicki Minaj + Afrojack
Why we're thankful: One of EDM's biggest names has just dropped Listen, and its standout track (which was hard to pick from!) is this island-ready soon-to-be-chart-topper with Nicki Minaj at the helm. Thanks for the new album packed with popstar-featured hits, David!
2. "Ring Off", Beyonce
Why we're thankful: On Beyonce's fifth self-titled EP that mysteriously dropped last December, there were plenty of hip-hop-tinged anthems that we got down to all year. However, sometimes we miss the era of I Am... or 4, where Queen Bey gave us her own brand of R&B; pop. "Ring Off" is that perfect ol-skool 'Yonce jam we've been waiting for: plus, it's dedicated to her equally "Flawless" mama, Tina Knowles.
1. "Do It", Selena Gomez
Why we're thankful: With a new collection of hits, remixes, and originals out now, SeSe's For You is an amazing gift given directly to her Selenators. The debut single "The Heart Wants What It Wants" is a brutally honest tearjerker that we adore, but we won't lie — it puts us in a pretty bummer mood. Which is why we're turning to the other original on For You: "Do It" is probably one of her most dreamiest (and poppiest) cuts to date!
