Watch Melanie Martinez' Scary New Music Video For 'Mad Hatter'
Beware of the creepy stuffed animals!
Over the last two years, Melanie Martinez has been hard at work keeping her promise to release videos for every track off her debut album Cry Baby. And it looks like she is now ready to close this chapter, with the release of the "Mad Hatter" video, which concludes Cry Baby's visual story.
The aesthetic is clearly inspired by Alice In Wonderland and artists like Mark Ryden and Trevor Brown. This won't come as a surprise to Melanie Martinez' fans as she has expressed her adoration for Ryden in the past, a painter who has previously worked on the album covers of Michael Jackson, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and more recently Tyler, the Creator. Melanie already referenced Ryden's creepy stuffed animals in a Noisey interview : "I really want a Mark Ryden illustration tattooed. He has this series called "Blood, Sweat and Tears", and I really want the "Sweat" one."
As she premiered the new clip, Melanie Martinez explained to her fans: "In this video my stuffed animals represent a few genuine friends in my life and their constant ability time and time again to support me in being myself even when I'm forced to be in environments where I'm told and expected to fit in a specific mold."
