Silsiila Music
Review
First there was ' Mohabbat ', and
then came ' Mohabbatein '. Going by the
same analogy, after Yash Chopra's ' Silsila
' comes Khalid Mohamed's ' Silsiilay
'. A script based on episodic format (just
like 'Lajja', 'Dil Vil Pyaar Vyaar', 'Yuva'
), ' Silsiilay ' is a Vashu
Bhagnani production. Led by Tabu, who finally
makes an appearance on the silver screen after a
hiatus, ' Silsiilay ' stars a bunch of
talented artists – Bhumika Chawla, Celina
Jaitley, Rahul Bose, Riya Sen, Divya Dutta,
Natassha, KK, Jimmy Shergill and Ashmit Patel.
While earlier ventures by Khalid - Fiza (Anu
Malik, A.R.Rehman) and Tehzeeb (A.R.Rehman) –
had music different from the routine, '
Silsiilay ' is more mainstream with Himesh
Reshammiya and Sameer at the helm.
' Ban Jaiye ' is a
duet by Kunal Ganjawala and Alka Yagnik that
could have even made Udit Narayan proud. A sugar
coated melodious track, the highlight of the
track is undoubtedly Rahul Bose who gets to lip
synch to his first-ever mainstream
'running-around-the-trees-love-song'. It must
have required some real cajoling on Khalid
Mohamed's part to inspire Bose to do this act.
Never mind, as he does a decent job with Bhumika
in tow and the song turns out to be quite pretty
looking in the end. Add to it Reshammiya's
trademark melody that makes the song worth
humming.
Sunidhi Chauhan, Suzan and Kailash Kher gang up
for the club song ' Meri Chandi Tu
' that inspite of a racy rhythm
doesn't register with the listener and settles
down to be a gap filler. While Sunidhi Chauhan
sings the entire song, it is shocking to hear
Kailash Kher just utter ' Mast Kalandar
' at regular intervals. Now this is something
that any individual from the chorus could have
been asked to do. Or even better, specialist
Jayesh Gandhi could have done this!
Another surprise in store is to hear Sadhana Sargam sing the love song '
Meri Jaan Ho Tum ' in
a way as if it were a sad song. Also Kunal
Ganjawala does the same as Kailsah Kher earlier!
He does a bit better with a few more words in
the only line ' Banwari Hui Tere Ishq Mein
' that he sings at regular intervals.
Towards the ends, the song becomes a bit too
much and tends to drag. In nutshell the song is
just situational but nothing more.
First solo in the album comes in the shape of
the title song ' Jab Jab Dil Mile -
Pyaar Ke Ho Gaye Silsiilay ' by
Sonu Nigam. A groovy track revolving around
rhythm, you can dance to its tune on a quiet
evening on sea beach. A track that seems to be
created as a part of background music during the
movie's narration, it too has a male voice in
the background (Is it Jayesh?) singing a line
intermittently that is definitely not Hindi or
English!
Jayesh Gandhi does make an appearance, this time
while beginning ' Ahista Ahista
', a saga about ' dil mein
aayiye-dil chu jaiye-dil ke dard ki dava de
jaiye ' and stuff alike! A duet by Sonu
Nigam and Shreya Ghoshal, it is a pleasant
sounding harmless song that comes and goes off
after a few days.
Suzan and Jayesh Gandhi provide vocal support to
Sunidhi Chauhan who does her best to make Celina
Jaitley sizzle in ' Belibaas
'. The song works due to a total effort
by Reshammiya, Sameer, Sunidhi and of course
Celina who collectively ensure that '
Belibaas ' turns out to be an interesting
outing for a moviegoer.
' Tere Liye Mere Jazbaat
' is the last track in the album and is
another club song rendered by Alisha Chinoy,
Jolly Mukherjee and Jayesh Gandhi. Not carrying
steam with it, it makes you loose your interest
pretty quite early in its duration and with it
also goes away good expectations one had from
the music of a Vashu Bhagnani film.
Music of Vashu's last few releases have somehow
not been able to recreate the same magic as his
earlier flicks. ‘ Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai
' and ' Rehna Hai Terre Dil Mein '
appears to be the last films by Vashu that had
brilliant music score but after that his films
have ranged from above-average to just about
average. ' Silsiilay ' too falls in the
similar bracket but thankfully doesn't go below
average. Don't expect a bumper initial sales or
an encouraging word of mouth! At the maximum, it
will have a stable stay on a lower side at the
music stores.
