The Strength of Your Spirit

The strength of your spirit

advertisement

In life we deal with many things

We grow and learn to deal with them

We have our dreams

We have our faults

We have our triumphs

An we have our loss

We try to do the best we can

We can be lazy and just kick the can

It seems to me that no matter what

We always seem to come out on top

God said he'd never put

More on our shoulders than we can deal with

As for me my shoulders are strong

I can bench press a Casino

With the slots still on

I have done this in spirit alone

It's why I can smile and say life is still fun

So if you've been tested

So if you've been tried

Just think of that spirit that helped you survive.

I sometimes wonder if our strength of character comes from the things we have been forced to deal with. What doesn't break us just makes us stronger kinda thing. In dealing with the day to day I see future leaders and I see suffering that no-one should have to go through.

What makes me go from sad to happy is seeing a family that lost it all regain their home. Seeing someone who hit rock bottom pick themselves up. They needed a hand and knowing I was able to lend that hand when others would just turn their back is a really really good feeling. After all where suppose to be Humans and we can't be Human if we don't have and hang onto our HUMANITY.

Let you in on a Secret so don't tell anybody but with all the parties you been having and seeing how some have been able to blow off steam an discuss the problems they've been going through. It gave me the idea for this one so I could remind them that things can an will get better.

We all go through so much and without those things to test us we couldn't be who we are.

Good morning, Tony. You are so right-what we survive does make us stronger and the events we live through help shape how we address the future. Thank you for the poem and the thoughts behind it!

I know that you and I both learned to be level headed and wonderful Fathers. We both found what's important in life and found each other to add to our every growing list of friends in this world. For that I feel blessed :)

A sermon on the vine! - Tony, there's truly wisdom in your words, and even greater still - Hope in a gentle reminder:

God said he'd never put more on our shoulders than we can deal with....

Very powerful poem, Tony. I don't know about character, but I will tell you, I used to be a very happy person until last year. I have been knocked down and kicked around so much, I am having troubles standing any more. Its like I am succumbing to whatever. I think I have cried more the past 2 years than the past 60. I had a dream and lost that this year. Now I feel I have lost all and any hope. I try to stay positive but I just struggle with even that. Sorry for venting on your website, your poem just finally brought it all out. If you want to collapse this entry, I will understand and not be offended.

I won't ask what happened but if you need to vent I promise to lend an ear.

I can tell you that some of what I've dealt with and survived has given me hope. I can tell you that some of it made me wish I'd joined my loved ones who have already moved on but I'm still here an glad of it.

Someone told me once that tears are a means to cleanse the soul so that we can be better prepared. It's when we find that we can no longer cry that we are in trouble.

Don't know if that helps but maybe it can tell you that I might be able to understand. Take care tonight and know in your heart that your blessed.

Nina, I'm also available for venting if you need an ear. I know how difficult things can be, and how much it can help just to let it out sometimes. I hope things get better for you. Like I said, I always have and ear to listen with and a shoulder to cry on...

Thank You Tony, Spocky and Teresa. You have all just touched my heart. At this level of pain, I become isolated and private trusting only one person who has just withdrawn. I am sorry, I just cannot reach out right now. Thank you all so much for your kindness. (hug)

Very well said Tony I am reminded of one of my favorite passages in the Bible.

"Therefore having been justified by faith we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ., through whom also we have access by faith in this grace in which we stand and rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. And not only that but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perserverence; and perseverance, character and character hope. Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for he ungodly."

It is through our tribulations that we can find strength and hope and that leads to character. I once told my wife when we were dating and she was going through some tough times and all seemd lost that they can take your money, your house, and every material thing you have but the one thing they cannot take from you is your hope. Thank you for sharing your wonderful poem with us all.

Blessings
H

Thank You Very Much Hiram :)

So true the words. Hope is the corner stone and as long as it stands there will always remain away to turn misfortune into fortune. I don't mean money either. Somethings if life are worth far more than all the Gold at Fort Knox.

I am thinking about the poor souls in Somalia - every day their suffering is on TV. I don't know where they find their hope, Tony - the odds are so stacked against them. I cannot see how so many lives can be saved from the wretchedness of their situation. Hiram on his posting says you can lose everything you have, worst case scenario, but still retain hope.... It must take a lot of courage then to suffer, and see your children suffer in this way. You say in your article, Tony, "that God would never put on our shoulders more than we could deal with". I don't understand then what God wants from these simple, uneducated people who do not have even the barest necessities to live. What do you think the message is here? Anyone?...

The message is the same as it has always been, when good men are silent, evil flourishes.

Thank You Very Much Tersa Oleary :)

You bring up a good point.

The best that I can even think of to compare for a brighter future is to look at this Nations past with slavery. Even though they where born slaves some of them never gave up. They never saw freedom but their children's children's did. Another would be the Jews. History hasn't been kind to them but now look how strong the Nation they started is.

It's a nice thought but who really knows. Maybe they suffer to remind us that no matter how bad it gets it could always be worse. Maybe seeing what they go through day-to-day is suppose to bring out our Humanity so that we remember we are suppose to be in this together and to help each other. Maybe it's all these things and more.

If we take the time to look around us, we can always find someone worse off than we are, I always try to remember an old Eddy Arnold song from many years ago.

"I got a sway back mule, a plow and a tater patch, and eggs that are gonna hatch someday, a roof over my head and most of my bills are paid, I'm the richest man in the world"

That "spirit" cannot be killed; we have to let it die, it's like you said, "Just think of that spirit that helped you survive."

Good advice, and so true, thanks for allowing us to read and remember that "Spirit of survival.
