"I have made mistakes in this campaign - I have made mistakes all my life..."

He didn't really mean those nasty things he said! After all he has a gay nephew; there is one gay man working on his campaign (well, OK, that gay man is the nephew -- who has not been seen at the campaign office since the comments); the income from the gay bars he used to own helped him feed his non-brainwashed family; and anyway it was the radical rabbis he was speaking to who put that awful stuff in his speech -- and he didn't say all the horrible things they wanted him to say!!!

What do you think: should gays, lesbians and others who found his remarks offensive accept Carl Paladino's apology?

Thanks, Sassy. I'm not sure abut accepting it, but what I am sure about is that no one should vote for him! Wonkette had a good take on this 'apology.'

he’s begging for forgiveness in a way that won’t convince the people who dislike him and will alienate his remaining supporters:

Mr. Paladino blamed the news media on Tuesday for turning his remarks into an overheated controversy. “I am not perfect,” he wrote. “I will reach out to leaders of the gay community to educate me on how to better represent my support for the rights of all citizens.”

Then his campaign also blamed the Jews:

Gay advocates were particularly incensed by a reference to homosexuality as “dysfunctional” in a draft of Mr. Paladino’s speech made public on Sunday.

Mr. Paladino never delivered that remark, and in his letter, he explained that he had redacted the reference before the speech because he considered it “unacceptable.”

He has said it was included at the suggestion of Orthodox Jewish rabbis. On Tuesday, at a news conference in Albany, [Paladino campaign manager Michael] Caputo took responsibility for the appearance of the remark, saying he had cooperated with the Orthodox community in writing the statement. “The speech mistake is on me,” he said.

Ha ha, yes, that is an interesting way to “take responsibility” for something, by saying that it was only in the draft speech because a wily Jew put it there. “It is 100 percent my fault that I didn’t notice this evil thing that a sinister rabbi put into my boss’s speech! He loves you, gays! Let’s never fight again! He wants to reach out to leaders of the gay community, for education!”

When something is in Paladino's words that is missing, namely a sincere apology from a man who is seriously rethinking his morality, I would be more inclined to accept an apology when an actual apology is given. An abusive disgusting mindset does not usually change quite that easily. And I have no doubt Paladino's abusive mindset is still quite intact.

Carloz, for the record, his speech WAS written by Rabbi Yehudah Levin. Now Levin is angry at Paladino for "stabbing him in the back" and not reading the speech as written.

Rabbi Levin is not someone to cozy up to if you do not want to be thought of as a bigot. Levin is extremely anti-gay and anti-abortion...and very vocal about it.

Thanks for the link, Rainkiss. I've known about Levin for a long time, unfortunately. His misogyny is a particular sore point with me. His homophobia isn't much better, of course. Some of the words he's had for the gay community are perverted, licentious, deviant, and the icing on the cake? That raping men is more horrific and evil than raping women. (if you want to see a video where he makes these statements in particular, you can go to youtube and type in "the threat of gay marriage by Rabbi Levin". It's in two parts. (I'm having trouble copying and pasting links on this computer or I'd leave a link).

In my opinion, though Paladino is NOT absolved in any manner, Levin deserves to share in Paladino's condemnation.

Even if the majority does vote democrat that means there is a minority of gays who vote repubulican and that is why Carl Paladino is backtracking. He knows he going to lose that percentage of the vote plus the vote of people who support gays. If gays, and those who support gays and gay issues were so insignifant to the republican vote, he wouldn't feel the need to back pedal and apologize now.

It's not just the anti gay issue. What also kills me about all of this is the fact that that republicans are trying to make us believe their propaganda that muslims are trying to enforce sharia law on the U.S. and here is a republican pandering to a religious group that not only wouldn't let female reporters in to record the event but had water thrown on them while being forced to stand outside on a public sidewalk.

This group is not only extremely intolerant of homosexuals but they are also so intolerant of women they don't even respect their right to stand outside of their shul on the public sidewalk in front of it.

Nahhhh! His GAY Nephew cannot even go back into the office, since he is now "outed".....

...seriously though; he probably WAS the only person with sense enough to actually tell Paladino how badly he had @!$%#ed-up!!

Paladino's apology sans double-speak:

"I'm sorry if any of you God-damned, perverted fags were offended by my earlier comments. I shouldn't have let my personal disgust for you people to come out. I simply didn't realize that there were so many queer-loving voters in New York."

Insincere and still a bigoted horse's ass.

To accept his apology would show a level of grace far above anything he's ever done in his miserable, angry, hating career. Given the level of cynical expedience in his 'apology' it's also a damned sight more than he deserves.

What a miserable excuse for a human being. If he weren't so repugnant and unrelentingly smug about his jaundiced attitude toward more than half the population, he'd be pitiful.

We should accept neither Paladino nor his "apologies". The fact that this nudnik made it to the ballot is in itself a disgrace to New York.

Is it just me, are does it seem that there are more...and more...of these fools coming out of the woodwork? Maybe not as ignorant as this fool, but on the same sheet of music. Sad. I wouldn't accept anything from this turkey.
