The Tea Party movement has taken American politics by storm. But is this truly a populist uprising or one of the greatest feats of propaganda ever seen?

Seeking to find out, Australian filmmaker Taki Oldham embeds himself in the Tea Party uprising. From men sporting tri-corner hats in Louisville Kentucky (the movement takes name from a key event in the American revolution) to 100,000 placard waving patriots in Washington D.C. ‘taking our country back’ from Obama’s ‘communist’ regime. But who are generals of this army?

Enter brothers Charles and David Koch. Oilmen, billionaires 20 times over and on a mission to create a privatized America. For three decades they’ve unwritten a propaganda war, funding fake grassroots groups (branded ‘astroturf’ by opponents) to dupe citizens into protesting on behalf of some of Americas most powerful people and corporations. As Taki infiltrates one such group, Americans For Prosperity, he captures David Koch beaming as operatives report running Tea Party events all over the country.

Just dropping by to make sure I can see this in my list if others post, but I'm off to bed. Exhaustion from the giant foodfest! I've not even been back to our parties!

Excellent article. Thanks. I know that the majority of people lost their attraction for the teaparty.

I heard today and the far right has created another party. They have large donors and one gave 5 million. This is an attempt to pull off the same stunt. Have you heard anything about this? I did not catch their party name. Great, this will allow people to basically throw away their votes. That is how our governor was elected.

A radical right Tea Party by any other name still stinks just as much...

If they keep up these tactics, continue to control states and even our national govt, we will have much worse than the OWS people. The "let them starve" faction of the right is rising in power, and they are too ill-educated to know enough history to be wary of this precarious position on wealth.

And this is where I thank the powers that be for my second amendment rights. I do not think the 1% are thinking very clearly. Eventually, even the people they hire to shoot at us will be left with knowing that they are protecting evil.

I don't own a gun or allow guns in my home. If the radical right want to come and shoot me so be it.

Well, I've been on both sides of this one. I am pacifistic, but after an interface with a crazy man (hubby No. 2), I decided it was better to be armed. I found that I liked shooting. I like swordplay better, but shooting is fun. I will not shoot animals. Targets shaped like men are my fav.

MY dad and granddad were both killed by firearms. That's the biggest reason I'm against guns. I thinks guns are fine for other people a long as we have reasonable gun laws though.

If I had to depend on killing animals for food, I'd become a vegetarian. I just can't stand the thought of killing anything anymore...

My favorite targets are tin cans! Can't imagine ever killing anything!

I had a brother-in-law that used to like to shoot soda cans... Unopened ones that had been shaken up. I never went with him, but it did sound entertaining.

Anyway, I figure if any Tea Partiers want to come after me with a gun then let them come. If they were to kill me I just hope they would rot in jail for a long time afterwards.

I want tighter gun laws, by all means. Those expanded cartridges have to go! Assault weapons? NO!

I never want to kill anything, and if I had to do my own butchering, I'd have lots of cows and chickens with names and I'd be a vegan, too! Well, I'd probably snag the eggs and the milk!

I lived for 6years knowing that I should kill hubby no. 2 before he hurt others as much as he did me; but I didn't because of principles. I left and covered my tracks to make sure he couldn't find me - sometimes that works, and it did in my case. I remember the day I found out he had died, violently. I felt free for the first time in years. I had been 5 years married to my charm (33 years now), and when I arrived at the restaurant he managed, I sat at the bar and asked for a cognac. He looked at me and said "what?" I told him, and he had one with me!

I believe that my choice to not kill another being, no matter how evil, was rewarded; my gift was/is my beloved.

But, if it does come to revolution, I will not be unarmed.

I think too think it's going overboard when they legalize things like armor piercing bullets, assault rifles, oversize clips, etc. Anymore when I express that view I have to be careful, because often someone goes off on me how that violates 2nd Amendment rights. Oh well...

I like all of my rights, but I also like sanity. There is no earthly reason for extended clips or assault weapons or armor piercing weapons. Those are for warfare, not hunting or target practice. Those arguments are bogus.

Yeah, I've gotten into arguments with a number of people who believe they should be able to have all of those or their 2nd amendment rights are being violated. I've learned it doesn't do any good to argue with them, they won't listen to any arguments against their beliefs whatsoever.

Sadly it takes a dose of reality to wake up most people. Like - being one of their children gunned down while an idiot is trying to get a leader. People want believe that if someone kicks in the door and comes in shooting, they will have a frightening chance if they have a gun. They watch too many movies. No way - zero chance. We had a dead-boat locked heavy duty door while living on the farm. It only took one kick to take out the entire door frame. They came in shooting. They killed my dogs. If I would of been home like I was suppose to be, not one of our guns would of done me any damn good. I am good with guns and was taught by my father who was a veteran. I do not like guns and know it would be a rare situation where it might give me a slight chance. Guns have not given us any thing positive for years. What gun corporations and lobbyist donate, is cancelled out in Karma.
