Steyn on Climate Pact: Left Believes They Can't Control Borders, But Can 'Control the Heavens'

White House counselor Kellyanne Conway pushed back on the criticism from the left of President Trump's decision to pull the U.S. out of the Paris Climate Accord. 

In a "Fox & Friends" interview, Conway said the president's decision is in line with his campaign promises to protect American jobs and industries like coal mining, paper, cement and natural gas.

"He's historical, they're hysterical," she said, adding that the left is trying to stop the president from creating more jobs. 

Former Secretary of State John Kerry said Trump's withdrawal from the climate deal will hurt so-called "forgotten" Americans.

"Their kids will have worse asthma in the summer, they will have a harder time having economic growth. He's made us an environmental pariah in the world. I think it is one of the most self-destructive moves by any president in my lifetime," he said on MSNBC.

Conway called the response "disappointing," adding "once a politician, always a politician" about the former Massachusetts senator. 

"It tells you why he lost when he ran for president and why his friend Hillary Clinton lost this past time. Because people don't feel like they put America and the American worker first," she said.

Conway said when the Paris accord was first negotiated, many climate change activists "went crazy," arguing it would not make a statistically significant impact on carbon emissions.
