It’s time for Final Thoughts. 

There are brave men and women in this country who risk their lives every day to keep us safe. They do it for little praise, and not enough money. Chances are you don’t know their names, and have rarely seen their photos. 

I’m talking about our men and women in blue - our police, our troopers, our brave law enforcement officers.

Since the start of 2018, at least 11 officers have died across this country while on duty. Ten of them by gunfire. That’s too many deaths. And it’s been too many deaths for too many years now. Just the year before last, 2016, was one of the deadliest ever.

The war on cops is real. It’s abhorrent. And it’s still going on.

These brave Americans put it all on the line - and hold that line - for you, for me, for all of us. But unlike celebrities, athletes, politicians, and activists, they aren’t given enough attention in mainstream media headlines.

That changes, today. 

Anthony Morelli and Eric Joering: We lost both officers on February 10th. They were responding to a domestic 911 hang-up call.

Officer Chase Maddox: He was just 26 years old when he was shot and killed on February 9. He leaves behind a young child - and his pregnant wife. 

Officer David Sherrard was fatally shot February 7th, while responding to a disturbance call in Richardson, Texas.

Sheriff’s Deputy Micah Flick: Shot and killed on February 5th, while investigating a car theft. 

Officer Glenn Doss Jr: Shot in the head and chest, while responding to a domestic violence call on Jan. 24.

Deputy Heath Gumm: Also shot and killed while responding to a disturbance call on Jan. 24.

Deputy U.S. Marshal Christopher David Hill: A husband, father of two children and a U.S Army veteran, served with the United States Marshals Service for 11 years, shot and killed January 18th.

Detective Michael Doty: Fatally shot on Jan. 16 while searching for a man who allegedly attacked his wife. 

Deputy Sheriff Daniel A. McCartney: Navy veteran, husband and a father to three sons, was fatally wounded while responding to a burglary on Jan. 7

Lieutenant Christopher Robateau: He was struck by a vehicle while responding to an accident on the New Jersey Turnpike. He was married with three children. 

And just yesterday, we lost Chicago Police Commander Paul Bauer. He was shot several times and killed while off duty. He died assisting his fellow officers.

These brave men gave everything they had to protect and serve our communities. They didn’t do it for fame, for money, or for glory. They did it because they wanted to make our communities a little safer, a little better, a little more secure.

They aren’t alone. Over 750,000 sworn law enforcement officers put on that uniform and badge each and every day. They are the thin blue line. They are heroes. They are near and dear to my heart, and I hope they are near and dear to yours. 

A hero remembered never dies. God Bless our law enforcement. God Bless America, and Take Care.
