Bill Browder, an American businessman and critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin, said he was outraged by the prospect that the Trump administration would possibly allow him to be questioned by Russian agents over a case stemming back to 2005.

At the time, Browder was operating a successful enterprise in Russia when it was seized by the Moscow government and Browder was expelled from the country.

Browder retained a Russian lawyer, Sergei Magnitsky, to litigate the incident, but the attorney was thrown in prison, beaten and later died after being refused medical care.

Since then, Browder has campaigned to punish Russia, Martha MacCallum said, and is considered President Putin's top foreign enemy.

"I was absolutely appalled by what I heard at the White House today.  What Vladimir Putin wants, we know he's a bad guy.  We know he's coming after me because of the Magnitsky Act," Browder said on "The Story." The Magnitsky Act targets certain Russian officials and business leaders linked to human-rights abuses with sanctions.

Browder said he is "confident" that Trump will not allow the offer to go through in the end.

He said it would be "effectively treason" to hand over to the Kremlin "patriotic people who have been doing the right thing."

Browder pointed out that Trump's dialogue with Putin over the "Magnitsky Act" was the same idea discussed by a Russian lawyer in the dubious 2016 Trump Tower meeting with Donald Trump Jr.
