The late Sen. John McCain's cellmate in the horrific Vietnam War prison known as the "Hanoi Hilton" spoke out in memory of his late friend on "Your World" on Monday.

Retired Navy Lt. Col. Orson Swindle called McCain (R-Ariz.) "quite a hero in my book," and recalled the time spent together as Prisoners of War.

Swindle spoke about how he and McCain would often make jokes about their time in captivity.

"If you aren't laughing, you're crying," Swindle said, adding that it would not have been good to show his North Vietnamese captors sadness or crying.

He said McCain's "gregarious nature made him a great inspiration for morale" during the war.

Swindle previously offered the opening remarks on the second day of the 2008 Republican National Convention, where McCain was nominated for president.
