Veteran reporter and author Bob Woodward will discuss his new book, "Fear: Trump in the White House," with Dana Perino Wednesday at 2:00pm ET on The Daily Briefing.

The book, which hit shelves on Tuesday, claims to reveal shocking details about the inner workings of the Trump administration.

In it, Woodward claims that Defense Secretary James Mattis once said the president has the understanding of "a fifth- or sixth-grader" and that White House Chief of Staff John Kelly called Trump an "idiot."

Mattis and Kelly have both denied the quotes attributed to them, while Trump accused Woodward of lying and fabricating his quotes.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said on Monday that many of those quoted in the book have said Woodward never actually reached out to corroborate their alleged remarks.

"[It] seems incredibly reckless for a book to make such outrageous claims, to not even take the time to get a $10 fact checker," she said.

President Trump also tweeted that Woodward's book is "a joke" and "another assault" against him.

Fox News politics editor Chris Stirewalt added Tuesday on America's Newsroom that a bombshell book like Woodward's is just part of every presidency.

"He's been doing it since Nixon. It's part of the life cycle of every American presidency," he said.

Perino will also interview former Secretary of State John Kerry later in Wednesday's show.
