Tucker Carlson said that Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez "has a very good point" about Amazon getting large tax breaks after the company announced it would build half of its newest HQ site in the New York City borough of Queens.
It was announced on Tuesday that the tech giant will build part of its new hub in the Long Island City community, which Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) will represent.
She tweeted the day before the announcement that Amazon's tax breaks will be "extremely concerning" to Queens residents during the time that NYC communities "need MORE investment."
Amazon is a billion-dollar company. The idea that it will receive hundreds of millions of dollars in tax breaks at a time when our subway is crumbling and our communities need MORE investment, not less, is extremely concerning to residents here.

Carlson agreed with the self-described Democratic socialist, saying that it's difficult to argue with her logic over the reported $1.5 billion in "incentives" Amazon and CEO Jeff Bezos will receive as part of the deal.

Brian Brenberg, a business and economics professor at The King's College in New York City, said that Bezos is trying to "cozy up to politicians."
"[Bezos is] going to put 20,000 more people right next to [Washington] D.C. and Northern Virginia to make sure every time there's an issue that affects Amazon, he has boots on the ground in the halls of Congress ... to get his preferences passed," Brenberg said. "This is all about getting his hands on the levers of power."
Carlson said that Washington, D.C. is wealthy enough, and questioned why Amazon wouldn't spread its wealth in an area that needs it like Detroit or Toledo.
Displacement is not community development. Investing in luxury condos is not the same thing as investing in people and families.
Shuffling working class people out of a community does not improve their quality of life.

"Detroit isn't anywhere near Congress," Brenberg replied. "This is purely a play for Amazon to buy political influence."
Carlson added that Amazon has the entire Democratic Party to protect it.
"It's unbelievable," he said. "It's the Democratic Party. The party of big business."
