"Turkey has blocked two of its largest LGBT websites. Users of sites such as hadigayri.com and gabile.com are finding that instead of regular homepages, they are seeing messages stating that the site has been blocked by the Telecommunication Directorate.
The newly-created body is permitted to shut down websites without a court order if it believes they violate the law.
Although it is not illegal to be lesbian, gay, bisexual or trans in Turkey, discrimination practices and persecutions of LGBT people are commonplace. Hate crimes have risen dramatically, both in the form of attacks and murder and campaigners say the police and government have shown little responsive action.
OK...I tried to post on your other article...it didn't post for some reason. So hear goes, again. Muslims are NEVER, EVER going to accept homosexuality. You only think that fundamental Christians are bad and hard hearted....Muslims execute them!!! 98% of Africa and SE Asia..and ALL Middle eastern nations, with the exception of Israel, are massively Muslim. And the religion is spreading globally very rapidly....especially in American prisons. Turkey IS basically a Muslim country...so, go figure. You might do better knocking your head against a brick wall than trying to convince a Muslim that homosexuality is an alternative lifestyle.
JMHO...PS
.it didn't post for some reason.
I've been having trouble occasionally with posting as well-- and if I keep trying, sometimes the comment then suddenly posts twice. I think its a termporary glitch in NV that will probably be fixed soon. Anyway..back to thte topic at hand..

I think that 's true for many..but i wonder if some are more tolerant...?
It defies both logic and common sense to base ones life and thinking on the tales of an illiterate, pedophile goat herder.

I'm no expert on Islam, but the more aI read about it the more I wonder if the effect of the belief system is to cause much misery and suffering in the world-- especially among its adherents...?
My thoughts exactly, Muslims riot and burn embassies, put death contracts on anti-islamic writers and film producers, journalists. The fact is that when it comes to free speech, they can criticize you, but you cannot critize them. The other fact is that in Iran, homsexuals are hung, even if they are very young. You are right, they do cause misery and suffering to the infidels of the world, you know, the people who see throught the lies.

While I think its important to realize that its only a small minority of Muslims worldwide who are so violent, IMO its also true that amongst so many there is this double-standard. A hyper-senitivity to even the slightest criticism.
During th eMohammed Cartoon Crisis, 2 embassies were burned-- there were over 140 deaths-- due to Musli m reactiosn to some rather innocuous satirical cartoons.
Here's a short but rather shocking video clip of a demonstration in London. Notice what the signs they are carrying say-- and what they are chanting.
I watched the video, they need to be deported back to their home country.

Won't happen-- not in Britain. Most Brits are currently in the "appeasement" phase (remember Chamberlain?). The belief thsat giving in to the demands of extremists will calm them down. Of course the opposite is true-- but it generally takes a while before they realize that (like when they finally woke up and put Churchill in power).
If they want to be excepted into the EU, they will have to learn to accept Gays. It is considered by most EU nations to be biased to be against Gays.
They might have to rethink this.

Good point.
Of course there are some apologists for the Islamists who would start their adolescent whining about how turkey really doesn't care if they get accepted into the EU or not-- sour grapes. The fact is Turkey knows full well the benefits of EU membership.
But there is currently a struggle between the Islamists (religious extremsit nutcases) and other Turks who have lived in this secular country for years-- and appreciate the benefits secualrism has to offer. They have been resisting the push toward Islamization-- and have been quite sucessful in reisisting it-- although things may be changing.
Btw, here's another recent aticle on the subject: Turkey Forced to Cancel Drill After US, Italy Pull Out The U.S. & Italy were pissed at the Turks-- because they refused to participate if Israel did.
Turkey's behaviour was different than in the past when they did participate in military exercises with Israel...in fact, Turkey and Israel were strong allies...but this appears to be changing...although of course its impossible to know how this will ultimately unfold... Turks are not Arabs, and may Turks are deeply opposed to Islamic extremism...)
Will the Turks succumb to the influence of those who the country to becoem more Islamic? Will they "stab their former allies in the back"? Only time will tell...
That is surprising about Turkey and Israel, because they were close Allies, and as a matter of fact, I have been annoyed at Israel for many years for not recognizing the Armenian genocide because of their friendship with Turkey....they would say Ottoman Empire, but you say tomato and I say potatoe. Politics are a queer thing ( no pun intended) because if any one should recognize a genocide, it is Israel. Maybe they will have to think about who they are in bed with?

I've seen this with so many countries-- despite all the pretense, most countries, most of the time, operate out of their own self interert. or-- what they perceive to be their self-interest.
Maybe they will have to think about who they are in bed with?
Well, as Turkey moves closer to Islamism (or, perhaps more accurately..if it does)..Israel may no longer be in bed with Turkey as the turks may be th eones to kick Israel out of the bed, as it were ...
Well, I had to bring a bedroom scene into the picture. There is only so much serious politics I can stand.
Actually it would be a sad day if that happened, because Turkey has always been a shining star as a Westernized Islamic country. I would hate to see that change. It would not be a good indicator of things yet to come. Or this could be just a blip on the screen. Who knows?
Interesting, because I had always pictured Turkey to be a much moderate country that just happens to be Islamic overall. I hope this is not an indicator of things to come....
Turkey is a moderate government, but they have a muslim fundamentalist for their premier. There has been protests in Turkey against fundamentalism, but have heard nothing lately. I hope nothing happens from this, also.

They are mainly moderates-- and apparently many Turks really do enjoy the benefits of living in a secular country. I believe there are also structures in the constitution to keep the country secular. But extremists have been trying to gain power-- sand their premier is not as moderate as many have been. I think they are trying to push for more religious influence slowly because they know if they do it quickly there will be opposition.
That's what i thought, but if extremists try slowly to gain influence in Turkey, then the future won't bode well. That's an insidious way of doing things.....
These websites (<a href="http://www.hadigayri.com">hadigayri.com</a> and gabile.com) are opened again. I think the international reaction was very effective, and that government institute could understand their mistake. These censor on these websites are removed.
That is very good news! Thank you for the update!
Thanks selim for the good news!
Krish, overall is it your sense that Turkey is backsliding towards a more fundamentalist nation? Do you think their army will step in anytime soon? Thanks.
