WHOIS Domain Privacy

Summary

ICANN, the organization tasked by the government with managing domain names, requires contact information for every domain owner to be publicly listed in the WHOIS database. This makes it easy for the public to find and contact the owner of a domain, and it also makes domain owners vulnerable to unwanted solicitation.

Just Host Domain Privacy is available on domains registered with Just Host and offers to protect your personal domain registration information from public WHOIS searches. Just Host Domain Privacy

Our Domain Privacy service acts as a shield. Instead of showing your personal contact information in the public database, the contact information for the Just Host Domain Privacy service will be displayed. This allows you to keep your information accurate and up-to-date as required by ICANN regulations, while shielding your information from public view.

WHOIS Domain Privacy Availability

Not all domain extensions (TLDs) are allowed to have a private WHOIS. Each Registry sets its own rules regarding this. Most ccTLD's (country code top level domains) do not actually allow WHOIS protection.

In March 2005, the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) said that all owners of .us domains will not have the option of keeping their information private, and that information must be made public.

How to Enable Domain Privacy

To enable Domain Privacy for your domain:

Log into cPanel.
Click on the Domain Manager tab.
In the left panel, select a domain.
In the right panel, click on the Privacy Options tab.
Select the radio button for Privacy ON.
Click Save Changes

You will be invoiced, and WHOIS privacy will be enabled on your domain. Please note: Privacy only works on live queries. Some companies cache the information and we have no control over them.

Changing Placeholder Information

Sometimes domains are registered with Just Host information since we do the registration manually. This is not private registration, and failure to update WHOIS with your appropriate information will cause you to miss important updates about your domain.
