Scott Walker's Chief of Staff Resigns...

Something doesn't pass the smell test. It was just annonced that Wisonsin Governor Scott Walker's Chief of Staff, Keith Gilkes, has resigned to return to his political consulting firm. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel states that the consulting firm is a one-man operation.

Gilkes and the governor are implying that the move is to allow Gilke to prepare for any recall election campaign that Walker might face.

I don't buy it.

This smells. Walker's chief of staff resigns a $112,000 per year post to go back to being self-employed and prepare for something that might happen up to three years from now. The resignation is announced on a Friday afternoon when Madison media are devoting massive coverage to Saturday's University of Wisconsin - University of Nebraska football game (Nebraska's first game ever in the Big 10 conference.)

We're supposed to believe it has nothing to do with an investigation of Walker's gubernatorial campaign, which Keith Gilkes managed before becoming Walker's Chief of Staff.

Is this resignation the first of many ripple effects from the FBI investigation of corruption in Governor Walker's office? Hopefully this will rub off on Governor Kasich since both states have sooo much in common pertaining to their ultra-conservative political agendas. Namely taking away everything they can lay hands on with teachers and state workers while they themselves continue to get raises and prevailing benefits.

Absolutely no politician should ever discuss others wages being lowered and or pay more for their own benefits when the politicians are unwilling to do the same first. Why the hell should anyone have to pay into any political pension benefits when the politicians don't pay jack into Social Security?!?

Not 'related' to the investigation huh? That's like saying that it is against the law to marry someone 'related' to you, such as your first cousin. Oh wait....

When they start passing out immunities, it's the first sign that the buzzards are circling. The gig is up, Scotty.

Personally, I'm saving it up for the federal grand jury investigation of the Koch brothers on federal bribery and racketeering charges.

I hope the Feds get on with the investigation. It doesn"t matter where he runs he can't hide from the Justice Department.

I sure hope it gets deep enough to implicate the Koch's. They are operating as economic terrorist against the American Political System.

Governor Walker will be found guilty of stupidity.

Well, Rachel @1.7, this is an important game. Nebraska is in its first year in the Big 10 and lots of us wonder why they are there. So, Wisconsin will do us a big favor if they beat the snot out of them.

Seriously, bombshells are always dropped on news outlets on Fridays so that it isn't covered. Right now, with Occupy Wall St. getting coverage, Fitzwalkerstan figures it can do some shuffling of deck chairs and not be noticed. They are going down as sure as the Titanic did, though.

No, not if they're determined to actually perform justice.

The only thing that concerns me is that justice has too often been "bought" before.

I don't buy it either. It's too neat considering everything else that's going on.

My guess is that he's trying to distance himself from Scott Walker to make it harder for any investigation. Akin to what Richard Nixon did by resigning. The resignation itself did nothing to kill the investigation into wrong doing, but as a private citizen Nixon would have been able to fight for years and years and years to maintain control of "his" tapes -- because as a private citizen, he could defend them as his own, personal property (if he hadn't been pardoned, I mean)...which would have been the crux of any criminal investigation.

Emmadog #8 - Me thinks Walker opened the door to his own demise when he was stupid and arrogant enough to take the bait on the prank phone call, not only exposing himself in the conversation, but, put the bright light on the Koch Brothers. They don't like being in the headlights of unflattering publicity, and now they are headliners in some very heavy investigations. They aren't likely to get in the Walker manure pile any deeper then they already are by bailing his a$$ out of anything. He is bleeding and on his own with no lifeboat or repellent in an ocean of sharks that have caught the scent of his blood.
