Thanks for question bjacket.

You do have to sign up with a network, and as stated in FAQ, you don't need website to execute the technique. If you read the reviews, you can see that they set something up in under 30 minutes. If you got used to the settting up, you can do it in 15 min. No upfront communication needed.
