Oh this is such a perfect sequel to 'Down Time'. And I find it very in character for Kathryn, for her to let her feelings slip in front of Ayala she had to be exhausted and looked in a turbo lift or else she would never down such a thing. Loved it so much, can't wait to read what happens next!

Janeway's vulnerability at even a slip of personal information when it comes to Chakotay is brilliant. They really did needlessly torture themselves for seven years.

Again well worth reposting. I love Ayala. You made a good friend to Chakotay and obvious he could be just as good to Janeway.

That was wonderful. I love Voyager, but one of its failings was its lack of minor characters. A crew of 150, and we basically only saw the main cast. So many missed opportunities. The writers really could have learned a lot from DS9.

That's why this one-shot is so refreshing. Just in this little story, we got a glimpse not only into Ayala's life, but also into his friendship with Chakotay, and the closeness of the Maquis crew members in general. Very nice. Wish this had happened on the show!

I love this one! And you write so well you don't need a beta reader anyway. I love how you round out Ayala's character and give him more depth with the details of his life on the Val Jean and with his family. And I think you capture exactly the right dynamic between the Captain and her adopted lieutenant - love seeing Janeway through his eyes. Great job! I am enjoying the re-read and hope that you will continue to post previous stories again and even maybe consider posting some new ones (Hint hint, wink wink). I love your style of writing immensely, especially when it comes to the Voyager crew.
