The whole thing is great, but I especially loved that Jayne almost followed the mice out, something about that just tickled me SO MUCH! I also loved the explanation about Book having followed Zoe and Jayne to provide spiritual guidance - Zoe's reply was just genius.

You do a fantastic job of writing a really good story while keeping everyone in character and getting the dialogue spot on. I think the only improvement would be to roughen up the writing of Jayne's dialogue, and to a lesser extent that of the other Rim-born characters, by writing it more dialect-y, closer to the way they speak - dropping vowels, contracting words and dropping the ends of words, esp anything ending in 'ing'. But, that's a matter of personal preference. I appreciate that's not only difficult to write, but some people would find it very difficult to read.

I absolutely love your banter between the crew, esp the Mal/Inara bit at the beginning and the Jayne/Mal/Wash part at the end. Wash was especially Washy, if you know what I mean ;-)

Best Jayne line EVER committed to.. well, anywhere. It's so perfectly, stupidly endearing and did I mention PERFECT? And now we know he's terrified of two things - reavers and rats. Wonder how he'd cope with ROUS's, eh?

Also, you're doing a great job with Mal and Kaylee's issues, I should probably tell you that too ;-)

Sweet, that story was good. I guess you didn't exactly go Kaylee/Mal, lol, but that's okay, it was great anyways. I liked the part where River sent all the mice out, just like the pied piper!

I absolutely love this so far! It's so funny, you write all the characters and their dialogue perfectly! Can't wait to read the other chapters. I'm guessing you're going for a Kaylee/Mal pairing? I love that, it's my favourite! Too bad not enough people write it.

Hi. Found this from a rec on the Cortex ( ), and I am so happy I did. Wow. This had all of the things I love about Firefly-the snarky dialogue, meaningful character interaction, and interweaving plotline. My favorite part of this was the Mal/River interaction. Mal knows what goes on with his crew, and I really think he has a better understanding of 'now' River than Simon does. And the image of River dancing the mice away was perfect! Thanks so much!

Really very well done. I can't fault your characterisation, and the dialogue was wonderfully well observed - Jayne's line about mice growing into rats (with Walsh's riposte and Jayne's reply) is the first example to spring to mind, but the standard is generally very high. Mal's reaction to Jubal's invasion of his ship is entirely convincing - granted part of this is caused by River, but clearly both Mal and Kaylee are still feeling the repercussions even without River's projection.
I'm very taken with your depiction of the relationship between River and Mal; it was one of the (many) touching things about Objects in Space and I think you've nailed it. Oh, and the mice! It's really one of the show's gracenotes, this attention to detail and inclusion of the mundane (mice rather than tribbles - Whedon's 'verse with no bumpy foreheads, no living long, no prospering). You evoke it beautifully here, and River's Pied Dancer solution is as appropriate as it is unexpected. Lovely. Thank you. (Also? You do give very good River.)

Hee! What an enjoyable story. The characters were spot on - really, every single one. That Mal/Inara scene was *adorable* and the Mal/River parts were just so insightful and aw-like.
You tied all the plot threads together very deftly, and I loved the little injections of humor. Once again, I really enjoyed reading this :)

Okay, this one was just plain fun. A few real LOLs! And more nice characterization, making me want more and more. . . .

Pitch perfect story. Imaginative, funny, and full of those great small moments that made Firefly so great.
