 Neva 11/27/03 . chapter 1::claps::
Every so often, I'm reminded of how awesome Red Witch is. You're absolutely right, of course - it's common among fanfic writers to demonize Taryn when she's never given the slightest bit of canonical evidence to being a "shallow bitch". I mean, I like Amanda and all, but she's too good-natured to have much of a gripe about her role in the grand scheme of things. From Taryn's brief characterization, she seems to be much more outspoken, and you spun off from that wonderfully. I could feel her confusion and resentment in every word. Kudos! |
 Wizard1 11/26/03 . chapter 1Wow. Just... wow.
Unfortunately, very realistic, too. On the one hand, what were the kids at Bayville supposed to think? The only X-Men who had any friends of note outside the Institute clique were Jean and Scott. So you have this group of people who mostly stick to themselves, and then they are outed as these... people with powers, and who have caused a great deal of chaos (accidentally, yes, but how are the students supposed to know that?), and really- how else would they have responded?
On the other... the X-Men were outed in the worst possible way. The point of the whole 'soccer incident' was to prevent exactly this from happening! And they did good things with their powers- they saved the bus, they prevented the B-Hood and Tabby's dad from making off with the cash from the fundraiser- but are they outed doing something clearly heroic? Sadly, no. The kids really didn't have the time to get in contact with anybody before they went back to school. Even Kurt apparently wasn't able to get in touch with Amanda before 'Mainstream'- and she knew! She didn't know everything, but she knew!
This is the scenario when it really isn't anybody's fault. Should the mutants have revealed their existence? If they had, how different would it have been from the events of DoR. Hopefully more people would have been more willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, but given the nature of their powers, somehow I doubt it. It wouldn't have been as bad for, say, Kitty or Kurt, but for the ones like Evan, Scott, or especially Rogue, the end result probably wouldn't have been too different- only more fear than hate. And Jean! She should terrify everybody!
Anyway, excellent fic, Red Witch! Taryn really was the perfect choice. She's not supportive, like Amanda, or an overt enemy, like Duncan. |
 Haretrigger 11/26/03 . chapter 1 Poor Taryn...
That what was she was thinking when all this stuff happen. Call me crazy but after I read this, I felt a little sorry for her. A little. And adding to this, I think she's actually right about our favorite muties.
Looks they missed their chance for them to shine and show mankind even though they're different but they're still like us.
Good job on capturing Taryn's thoughts on them, Red Witch. |
 Bohemianlady 11/26/03 . chapter 1 Wow, like NO ONE ever writes fics about the human characters of the show. Except for myabe Amanda, but usaully only with Kurt besides her. However in the show it seemed to be more like Taryn while interested in Scott was never really more than a friend because of his pinning for Jean. Bt than again this just might be Taryn taking things too seriously.
Anyway, it was great.^^ |
