I liked this little one shot. It's a bit better than the Sanosuke/Anji story that was in the manga (it never made sense to me for example, that Sanosuke wouldn't take what he'd learned and work on his left hand next instead of just witching and moaning about his right and how did a week go by so fast... but I digress). This was an amusing and interesting take on Sanosuke's character. The idea that Kamatari was one of Shisio's spies was interesting.

I liked the Sagara flashbacks and laughed at the explanation why he didn't treat the two boys the same. It seems nicer than to say "Well, you're more useful to me as brawn since you don't have two brain cells to rub together."

Seriously, the piece was well written and moved between dramatic and light hearted quite well.

I love this! Kamatari's hitting on Sano (and subsequently creeping him out) is hilarious, and the little foray into Kenshin's state of mind (by way of Sano) was very interesting indeed. I have to admit I laughed for about ten minutes when Kamatari said that one of Shishio's henchmen would just shoot Kenshin if he managed to win, because I realized that they easily could have done that, but they didn't. Hell, Shishio probably could have done it himself in the first place - after all, not everyone is as resiliant as Mr. Shot-in-the-head-and-burned-alive-yet-lived-to-take-over-Japan-anyway...

First of all, I have to comment on how well you captured Sano's voice. I loved the lines, "Damn trees. Damn Kenshin. Damn, I'm hungry." The cadence and the straight forward humor are all Sano.

As for the story, what an interesting and original idea. Kamatari is the perfect seductress and I love the apple and snake imagery. Kudos to Sano for being tempted but not fooled. The image of stranding Kenshin on the shore of that lake even when it seemed it so many ways to be in the best interest for Sano and his friends speaks right to the heart of his loyalty and friendship. Great story. Why would you feel the need to rewrite it?

Oo. I like it a lot, religious Eden overtones and all. Very interesting interaction between Kamatari and Sano, especially seeing him waver before deciding no... Original!

I really don't think a re-write is necesary! This touches all the points I figured it would and in a very interesting way.

This is such a wonderfully written one-shot. And such an original idea! Your writing style is simply beautiful. Nice job on keeping everyone in character too. I love seeing Sano's background explored - he's one of my favorite characters and yet it's hard to find writers capable of fleshing him out. You've done a great job of it, though. Stunning. I always wondered what Kamatari would have been like before Shishio actually gathered them all togethor. I just couldn't imagine him out on his own, in any other setting than those that were shown in the Manga/ Anime. He is creepy isn't he, thats the whole point right? And touching more on Sano's past and desires just made it seem even more canon. A Kamatari who isn't written as a girl in personality is something I've been longing to see for a very long time. Thank you.
