This was a weird yet sweet chapter. I'm really curious what direction this story is headed.

what can I say. Your writing style is decend, your character up to this point are fine yet I'm going to stop reading... Why? It's the story background. It's strange really, you seem to know quite a few things in some aspects yet next to nothing in others. For example: You can't swim in a hot spring, they are barely deeper than a bath tub. You would be washing before entering the hot spring, which Kaoru should have heard. Mixed baths were generally the case in small villages, etc. so meeting for the first time in a hot spring? Rather unlikely.
Also setting prostitutes and Geishas next to each other... a geishas education was quite expensive so the deptors would have made a lot more money selling her as a slave (I'm not even sure if a Geisha woman was actually sold...)
Also her going with them to a teahouse? Probably not...
Well anyways I would really advice you check out your facts a bit beforehand so your reader doesn't think several times in one chapter: What?
I know you wrote in the note that some things were necessary for the plot, but at least what doesn't totally have to be wrong should be halfway correct.

So I'm not all sure if you're still in this site or monitoring your reviews, but I just couldn't help myself. I Dreamed A Dream wasn't written by Andrew Lloyd Weber but by Claude-Michel Schönberg and Herbert Kretzmer based on the original French by Alain Boublil. Lloyd most notably did Phantom and has never been part of Les Mis. I know it's been literally a decade and shouldn't matter but yeah sorry, kind of passionate about that. Anyway, the story's interesting so far and I'm looking forward to reading it.
