Wonderful. I just love your poetry. Verse is difficult to compose well, and you excel at it :).

"Too complicated to understand, She was the gentle sunshine, That I couldn’t quite command." Though I have no doubt that Ozai will be played as a pretty straight villain in the show, I confess I would much prefer him to have the depth you present so skillfully here. Even people widely regarded as evil are capable of love in their own fashion. I see no reason why Ozai would be an exception.

"I knew the weakling was to blame, It should have been him to leave my life". I can just hear him saying that. Poor Zuko to have earned such disdain for so little cause, and (as you astutely picked up on in the first quote) such a shame that Ozai did not learn more from Ursa's gentle wisdom regarding his son's virtues.

Oh...Loved the style of this poem, nice and straightforward, and very Ozai. Excellent!

That was nice. It is plausible, your theory makes sense. Good job.

I kindof think your rhythem is off in a couple places and changed it in a way i thought was a bit better, just in my opinion

Here:

Ozai's Lament

She was a winter butterfly

Too fragile to hold in my hand

She was a petaled flower

Too complicated to understand

She was the gentle sunshine

That I couldn’t quite command

She was the spice of life

Without her, all is bland

I look towards the garden

But I know she won’t be there

I look upon an empty throne

And swallow back despair

I look towards my children

Devoid of her loving care

I look towards my future

A half of a broken pair

We met as little children

Upon seeing her on sight

I felt my face grew red

My chest had gone so tight

She saw me walking over

And bowed with a smile bright

Surrounded by spring flowers

She was a lovely sight

The years did past and finally

We were bound as man and wife

So why did she run away

When I needed her in the strife?

I knew the weakling was to blame

It should have been him to leave my life

I knew this without a doubt

By my father's body, I found Zuko’s knife

I love the poem. It really shows the not so horrible side of Ozai.

Okay, first of all: I liked the poem.

Good rhythm and rhyme.

And meter.

He thinks Zuko killed Ozai...?

And he thinks Ursa just left...?

No offense if you think so too.

I think that second one's just wishful thinking though...

And I never heard the first before, but Zuko can be surprising...

Anyway... good poem :]

Oh my gosh! Holy crap that was amazing! Aww it's so weird I feel sorry for Ozai. However it would explain why Zuko's knife was missing. ^_^ Magnificent job!

It's a distinct possibility this was the reason Ozai went *mad* Though I have the suspicion Ursa is lying dead somewhere in Firenation territory, and it was Ozai who said 'Go kill my wife please.'

Excellent lament!

You should check out Karalora's "Lucky to be Born" and "Excerpts from the Diary of Princess Ursa". Both focus on the Ursa/Ozai relationship.

Once again, good poem. Ha, at least someone explores the possibility of Ozai having actual (gasp!) feelings. Maybe the show will even try that route. I know that adding a little sympathy towards the "super villian" of kids' series is unusual, but then again, Avatar is not your typical kids' show...oh, and by the way- nice job setting up some Zuko bashing from Ozai.

Ozai is mad yet I guess in his own twist way he did love Ursa as much as he was capable of that emotion. Even the devil desvere the privacy of a broken heart of love.
