Enjoyed the update. It gives nice motivation into what led to Ellie hunting String down later to talk to him. I still think part one's "lot's of beautiful kids line" is the best though. It still remains romantic and tragic to the end. Sweet but sad. Guess we all have our regrets.

Didn't read the 1st chapter when it was first posted because I'm so not a St. John fan (Barry VD just wasn't right for the show, but I digress).

Read it this time around and was blown away at how well you conveyed how *young* String is, not in an immature or silly way, but a realistic sense of inexperience and bad choices made because he doesn't know better yet, not because he's so hardened it doesn't matter.

I actually *liked* St. John in this story, much to my surprise, probably because he was more fully realized as a character and more interesting than the S4 version.

And an OC that was interesting, believable, and intriguing. I am curious for more.

You have a real talent for reading between the lines and making a TV episode into a full blown story.

This is my second favourite of your fanfics ('The Lady' being the first). I never paid much attention to the flashbacks in HX1 until I read this, then I had to watch it again! Excellent.
