About the parents never being informed about the Basilisk, or even the diary...I'm trying to imagine similar dangers being covered up in modern schools, and I just can't. Apparently Albus' total disregard for the safety of children in the castle has been contagious.

Good first chapter. I keep waiting for someone to write a time travel fic, where Severus Snape goes back in time to off Albus Dumbledore, who is responsible for the rotten childhoods of Tom Riddle and Harry Potter. Everyone who suffered or died in both of Voldemort's reigns of powers would be saved, and nobody would have to watch Albus standing around eating candy while there's extreme danger.

I had to stop reading just now so that I could drop you a line. I just read, "Budgie, remember?" and it made me laugh. I live for the authors that remember that Severus is only in his 30's throughout the series. You've written him so well and in this scene, especially that line, I can see a snarky 33 year old.
