sasunaru13 chapter 1 . 6/22/2015 ohmygod did I just read a TCE chapter? Anyway, this is so awesome! your writing is amazing as always! |
Tre Corde chapter 1 . 8/13/2014 This thing. Just. Gah. I'm nerding out like no tomorrow. I recently took a History of Medicine class, you see, so it's all still fresh in my mind. I loved all the references and historical notes, of the arrival of smallpox in North America, the WHO project to eradicate it, the different forms of the disease, Russia's plan for biological weapons. And then there's the small, painful things (like America's aside about the Romanov children) that enhances the writing in all the best ways. This story is pretty old (2009), but what's wonderful about it is that it still has a lot relevance in current events. Although WHO's efforts have been wildly successful, it's unlikely that they've eradicated every trace of smallpox. apart from, of course, the official stores in the US and Russia.) Case in point: apparently, a bunch of discarded smallpox vials were found in a lab in Maryland last month. People were, understandably, somewhat agitated about the implications. The return of smallpox is indeed a scary prospect. Anyway, excellent one-shot. The Russia/America relationship was gorgeously written, uncomfortable and raw and broken in all the right ways. Thanks for writing this! |
CrimsonAccent chapter 1 . 5/20/2011 I love the more historical fics like this. And that your story America isn't just some idiot. (Granted it is usually played for humor in canon) The part about England giving him blankets was probably my favorite part, aside from the bittersweet Russia/America. :) It's scary, isn't it, what people will do to each other? |
Artemis1000 chapter 1 . 2/15/2011 A heartwrenching story and interesting history lesson all in one - excellent job! :) |
Azmera chapter 1 . 1/19/2011 Wow...that was pretty good. You know, for being about an incredibly deadly disease. Smallpox terrifies me. And apparently, (according to my History teacher, that is) smallpox is back. At least, in some parts of the world. Here's hoping we can knock it out again. |
zuiqi-and-coke chapter 1 . 9/7/2010 So good! I'm a sucker for Hetalia fiction based on actual history... but this was really good! Love the historical accuracy and especially the realistic relationship. Finally, a Cold War fic that goes along the lines of the ugly truth: too much shit went down for US/USSR to have worked out... or even just made out. :,( Keep writing/educating me! |
The Almighty Ro chapter 1 . 8/27/2010 I just thought I would let you know your wonderful story aided me today in a Jeopardy question and made me feel uber smart. It does a soul good to know that I learned something from fanfiction. Happy writing! |
HollyWood chapter 1 . 12/4/2009 A really good, well researched and written story. (Why oh why does Alfred have to be so cruel?..) |
Sexykill69 chapter 1 . 11/22/2009 Actaully the infected blankets we're originally Americans idea to give to the natives. On all over accounts I beleive you were correct...scarey how greedy and paranoid people of the world can be, yes? It's blatantly disgusting what the Soviets did, but what country has no horrible history of visicous violence and greed? Biological war fair...sickens me. Men playing the role of gods. It literally makes me want to puke. btw I loved the RussiaxAmerica you added in there. trey magnifique~ 3 |
kwaiiChan-chan chapter 1 . 11/18/2009 Love how you weave history in with your stories. I knew some about smallpox, but I din't know about the Russians stocking up on it. I like this couple a lot too |
WTv1.0 chapter 1 . 10/21/2009 Ah, the joys of apocolyptic biological warfare. Yay. *waves unenthusiastic flag* Poor America and Russia. Such good friends, once, and now what? *sigh* People change, so do countries. life goes on... but it still stucks. On a less serious note, I wonder if I can convince my social studies teacher to just ditch parts of the curiculum and use your fanfiction instead? Seriously, I think I'm learning more from these twenty stories than I have the last several weeks in geography. XD Brilliant work on your part... but do I really need to say that anymore? I think it goes without saying. |
snwnprv chapter 1 . 10/6/2009 I enjoy greatly Cold War!fanfics of that kind (with interesting and rather unhackneyed historical basis). And the relationship between Alfred and Ivan represented just perfectly. Thank you, author ) Sorry for my lame English |
SoujisBlackCat chapter 1 . 10/4/2009 You do like biological weapons, don't you? *remembers "sick days"* Poor Russia, with the scarf in that heat. :) Wonderful fic, as usual. Usually I'm terrified of diseases (and needles) but your fic is always so good, I can easily make it through! I love the way you write America (with a surprising amount of swear words!), and the description of America having smallpox himself a long time ago was spot-on, historically. Your fic always teaches me something . . . oh, and that last kiss was adorable. X3 One more thing before the rambling review is over: the detail about the hydrogen peroxide is awesome. I want to see them with bleached hair. . . |
StarlingStorm chapter 1 . 10/4/2009 Wow! I loved the historical notes you did! Thankies so much! But I got ahead of the fic! lol I loved this! It made me uber sad though...*sniffles* Poor Ivan! |
Kirsten-Korona chapter 1 . 10/4/2009 I love this story; love how it shows the relationship between the US and the former SU (now Russia, cause I'm just going to be politically correct here. I like how you show America's suspicion of the Soviet Union - I'm reading Biohazard by Ken Alibeck right now, and it's amazing, the things Biopreparat did. You seem to be interested in biowarfare, so I reccomend you look into Unit 731 - what I've managed to find out about it so far is that it was the Japanese equivolent to the Nazi experiments - they used a lot of bioexperimentation and such. Either way, your story is marvelous, and you should keep writing, you educate the masses. |
