Reviews for The Lord of Light
bluetooth2kus chapter 39 . 10/17
So I'm assuming that Harry would now be the Infinity Man in the DC universe?
rmw5763 chapter 21 . 10/9
Why do people that don't really like the story try to sum it up with their own opinions? Write your own story and don't give it away for the rest of us that like "Just a good Story ".
rmw5763 chapter 17 . 10/9
Brilliant Prank to play on Tarkin !
Publiclee Speaking chapter 33 . 8/28
I love your Simurgh's Son story, so I thought I'd go back and read where the entire Forever Mage thing came from.
.
This was a mistake.
.
The Four Founder's was amusing and crack-y, getting unexpectedly serious at the end, and I liked it.
.
The Forever Mage was not really so much a story as an extended epilogue, with no real sense of threat and more of a 'what if' with fairly realistic reactions and a skillful melding of HP & ST universes.
.
The Lord of Light though, was so much more, right up until the end. Harry being de-powered presented us with at least the sense of stakes, and the thousands of iterations between Forever Mage and Lord of Light weren't just a way to handwave Harry's being able to stand up to SW level tech, but an actual source of character development and added a weight to him that he lacked before. Harry was still somewhat Mary Sue-ish, but between the reactions and him being an old, damaged soul it Worked.
.
Then came this chapter.
.
I want to believe that you merely wrote yourself into a corner, that you didn't intentionally set out to write a 100k word story that goes 'but then none of it actually happened! LOL!' because that level of jerking around your readers is. . . I want to say immoral, but it's not, it's just mean. Imagine if at the end of an actor's Doctor Who run, not just an episode or even a season, the last episode went 'but that never happened, and the Doctor regenerated into someone completely different!' The fans would revolt. Every that was saved is now back on their canon track, and those characters that you've grown to care for that were originally doomed are once again. Going 'well this one character who is no longer part of the universe at all is different!' doesn't negate this fact. You're obviously trying to go for this deep meaning, but all I get, especially from the pretentious Latin title, is that 'you can't fight fate/gods', even though you spend most of the story with a protagonist who did so on a Regular Basis.

It may be Amanda that makes this plot twist fail so hard. Ignoring the fact that she came out of nowhere, the ripples her presence should have created no where to be seen, and the 'she's unstoppable because she is' hand-wave, there's the character herself. You have a woman who did the right thing and was screwed over by the Q, good so far, and who, having been told over and over again that Harry didn't want anyone more than his wives, took advantage of his pain and grief and seduced him. Okay, sympathy is pretty much gone, still there a bit but she's quickly becoming as bad as the Q she decried. Then, when Harry came later to tear down the Q, the Q that Enslaved her, she took it as a personal betrayal and blamed him for it. She killed a galaxy, and then when it looked like Harry was going to be happy again, she showed up to do it all again because he needed to suffer for spurning her and daring to find happiness when she denied it to herself. What does she get for all of this? She gets REWARDED. She's healed, and is with the man she hurt and seduced even when she knew if he wasn't insane with pain and grief he'd never give in, getting everything she ever wanted, and all it took was destroying one galaxy and threatening to do the same to another. Basic bias check: flip the genders and see if this situation works. Hell, for a LESS unequal situation, what If Grand Moff Tarkin seduced Leia after Alderaan got destroyed, and she gave in because he was threatening to do it all over again? You hopefully wouldn't go 'Oh isn't that great. He was in charge of the entire deathstar, she could never have fought him, isn't it so much better that she gave in? Maybe her love will heal his twisted heart, that makes it ok!'
.
But the worst part of all of this? I can't trust that you won't do it all again. I like the Simurgh's Son, but part of that was a belief that, as OP as that Harry is, it's going to end well no matter how bad it got. Now? I have no idea. Will it end well, like Four Founders or Forever Mage, or will all of the time be wasted, the enjoyment turned to ash in my mouth because you tried to be 'deep'. While Hyperbolic, it's like wife-beating: you might not do it again, you might even say you won't, but you've crossed that line once already and I'll always wonder if you found a way to justify it again this time as well. Part of me wants to go read the other version of this story you wrote, but I can't trust that it won't just be you jerking me around, introducing characters and having them again only to effectively kill them all off, returning the universe to what it used to be because it's 'how his journey must end' or something equally sophistic.
Laurentius Williame chapter 33 . 7/20
Just read your story. Wow! Loved the entire read, and even though the ending is bittersweet, it's stunningly profound. This fic is in a class of it's own. You are an amazing writer. Thanks for your hard work.
Mihai88 chapter 1 . 6/21
Nice story! You could write a sequel with Games of Thrones. They already have a lord of the Light! It could be interesting, Harry against the Others!
Camilo The Great chapter 11 . 6/17
oh, the kawakian monkey-lizard has shit in its hand, and it has spotted a fan within throwing distance
abraxas01 chapter 2 . 6/3
Err just noticed something, you called a Black Widow an insect...
chapter 39 . 5/19
A new story/update
chapter 33 . 5/7
I won't lie, I did not like the ending at all - it left me feeling unfulfilled. Even so, this was a marvelous story, capping off two other marvelous stories. I always enjoy your writing, even if I don't like how you might choose to end it.
Graypdrink chapter 1 . 4/28
Holy shit i love the start!
soggy noodle chapter 33 . 2/24
Well, that was certainly not anti-climactic.
soggy noodle chapter 32 . 2/24
I knew this was going to be the ultimate fight, ever since nothing was said about the fate of the final remnant of the continuum, I just didn't know which Q it would be.

It should have been plainly obvious, but I missed it.
soggy noodle chapter 9 . 2/23
Well, you threw me there; I was so certain Winter represented Slytherin.

Cynical, untrusting and calculating; that's what she appears to be to me and those are traits of a Slytherin, but I guess there was more to her that that that marker her differently.
soggy noodle chapter 4 . 2/23
I am still giggling over the 'Dark Codpiece' line.
