Y'know, I really think you nailed it. At no time is the Kate/Beckett distinction (in the moments Castle chooses to use her first name over her surname) more obvious than in 'Always'... The last line of this fic takes me back to late S4, yet here you are absolutely nailing it after 'Rise'.

Gah, Kate was so infuriating during the premiere! Seriously, how could she be so heartless to Castle? I understand why she ran away, but three months? Did the Hamptons teach you nothing, Kate? I've got say, though, reading all of these Rise fanfics has softened my opinion of her actions. I really hope she was thinking all of these things during Rise, or I will be one unhappy camper.

Anyway, end rant. This was a really nice piece - and I didn't know that Heat Rises was dedicated to Roy. That makes me super happy. I loved all of the parts about the Kate/Beckett name debacle, that was a really nice touch. Lovely work!

Loved what you did with this - made me no be so mad at her for not calling him for THREE MONTHS! I actually wanted him to stay mad longer than the writers let him - but I guess he just loves her that much. This was really great.
