You did an excellent job in showing how Kate was getting use to DC. The ups and downs for her were present as Kate thought about how she was settling into her new jobs. It wasn't until Rick appeared that being in DC on the 4th was going to be okay.

To me, it appeared that Rick being there with Kate has made things a little easier for her.

I do wonder if Kate accepted Rick's proposal even though she is wearing the ring on a chain instead of her finger.

The ending was sweet as they watched the fireworks together. It was made even better with what they said to each other at the end.

Great story! You had me thinking she was solo for a wee bit, and then Castle makes a typical Castle entrance...wooohooo! And yes, DC does do fireworks pretty darn well! It is a bit sad to see the Wash monument all sheathed in scaffolding, but I confess that the Lincoln is my fave. Hope you had a nice 4th!
