A very good story. I expected a bit more of a climax, but that was not what you were going for. I did like the fact that Hitomi reacted as she learned in the series to believe in her friends rather than focusing on how things could go wrong.
I liked the story. I would have liked more to it but as you said earlier it is better to have a few good chapters than more bad ones. I have enjoyed this story which has humor as well as other features to it.
I'm SO sorry that I didn't read the last few chapters sooner! My only excuse is that I'm in the very end of my pregnancy, and I've been so tired and unable to concentrate on anything!
Anyway, the last few chapters were wonderful! The characterization was right on. Hitomi was complacent when she woke up, but when Van took off for the fire and told Hitomi to stay there...LOL, her indignation was so perfect! It spoke so much of the Hitomi that we all know and love from the original series. And I think the way she didn't confront Van was perfect-you got into her head wonderfully on how she would see the situation. Yelling at Van would have left her mind the moment she saw his dirty, smoke-ridden self.
Oh! And the Epilogue was so absolutely sweet! I'm so glad that Hitomi's family (especially Corey) came back to Gaea-and even more glad that Corey and Merle got married! It was cute thinking about a pregnant Hitomi-but when Van touched Hitomi's belly at the end of the Epilogue, I couldn't help but wonder if the baby had given him a good hard kick. (I know my baby always kicks when his daddy touches my belly.)
Anyway, I look forward to reading 'When I Walk With You.' Congrats on finishing this story! :-)

meruru and corey got married! that's the most adorable thing i've read in such a long time! i liked the dress designs, as well. so meruru gets married in an umpire top? spiffs. she'd look cute in anything, though.
i think this is probably the best ending to a story i've read in a long while. it isn't too long, it doesn't try to be something that the rest of the story wasn't and it's just incredibly endearing. looking at the story as a whole, the conclusion doesn't surprise me at all and actually makes me feel a bit bubbly. it's like the absolute only way the story could have turned out.
and there was a marriage! you don't get much better than that.
hahaha, this is random, but that just reminded me of the movie "miss congeneality." in it, the pageant beauty consultant, vick, is talking about all the years his girls won-10 out of 11. and the one time he lost the winner was a deaf mute. and as he said: "you can't beat that." kinda like the marriage at the end of this story. you simply can't beat it.
cause it's cuuuuuuuuuuute.
just a question, but do you plan on following the plotline of van and hitomi's child? i can't wait for the meruru/corey one, but i wouldn't mind seeing more stories from you based on points brought up in this one. plus i just really like your writing, so it would please me to read more.

About the scene between Hitomi and Van in the last chapter, when she was going to yell at him but inevitably didn't...that's kind of the same concept as in my last chapter of BTM when the two made up so quickly (granted Hitomi did chew him out a bit.) I just don't think it's possible for those two to stay angry at each other. ^_^
Anyway, thank you for writing such a beautiful, exciting and entertaining story. I'm looking forward to your next fic! I gotta stop being lazy and update my website, and put the last chapter and Epilogue of WITTY up. Yeah, I do...
Eee, so sweet! I loved it! That memory, when they were walking together in the woods... It gave me the mushiest feeling in the world, and that just persisted till the end, with some Van and Hitomi fluff. Siiigh, this was a very fulfilling chapter, indeed it was. Very fulfilling.
I shall be waiting for the Corey/Meruru one-shot, but there are others I have to read, too... Shall I ever find the time? But eeee, happy mushy feeling! It won't go awaaaay! I love when authors can write that and the feeling stays. You're great.
