Final Author's Note: And there, finally, is that.
Oh how the time has flown.
I wrote and posted the first chapter of this story nearly one year ago on October 1st, 2015. If you'd have told me then that this story would span 71 chapters of content, over 230,000 words, 1,500+ reviews and nearly 850 followers I would have laughed in your face. Now I can't thank you all enough for making this story as popular as you have. This story has had its ups and its downs, its good chapters and its poor ones. Many of you have been here through it all, and you have my thanks for that.
Some of you reviewed a lot, some of you only sparingly, some of you not at all; each of you, mass reviewers to not reviewers, have my utmost thanks. Some people were perfectly polite, some were vicious flamers, and some managed to somehow mix the two depending on I guess your moods haha, but I appreciate each of you for taking time out of your day to write out a review of any kind. The reviews are what kept me rolling through this story, even when I got discouraged or low on time or just plain pissed off. For every person to flame there were ten to encourage me to keep it up, always a kind word even if they were less than pleased with how a certain storyline went. I received some much needed constructive criticism along the way, helping me to improve as a writer.
This story started as your normal good guy, then morphed into a good guy with streaks of bad, and then somehow ended up with a guy who was equal parts hero and villain. Plenty of you readers still liked Aelor at the time of his death; plenty others hated him long before. That actually pleased me to see; grey characters are always my favorite, and if they are done properly there will be plenty of people who both like and hate them.
I would like all of you who would to write not only your thoughts on the last chapter of content, but your final thoughts on this story as a whole, be you someone who has been here since the beginning or someone who has stumbled upon this fic long after it was finished. Let me know if you like how things looked 100 years after the two main plotlines, but also let me know what you think of the journey that is chapter 1 to chapter 71. What do you think of the changes in Aelor? Did you find his actions understandable, cruel, just or just plain mad? What of Aegon? What of the callbacks and running themes? If you don't care, I would love to read anything you have to write about it.
Even if it is flames haha.
I have no other works planned for now, though I may start posting another project somewhere down the line. Worry not, I'll still be around. I'll still read reviews and respond to questions, still review other works. In the meantime I'll edit this story, though only in terms of correcting grammatical mistakes or rewording sentences; there will be no sudden change in the content of what is already written. If anyone ever has questions or requests, feel free to pm me. I won't promise anything in terms of undertaking projects or beta-ing stories, but I will always answer anything I can and offer any advice I can give.
God bless you all, and thank you going on this rollercoaster of a ride with me.
Strong shield, stronger sword.
