Top-Ranked Tar Heels Survive BYU 73-63

Top-ranked North Carolina needed a fine finish to avoid becoming the second Eastern power in two days to get hustled out of Vegas by Brigham Young. Tyler Hansbrough scored 21 points, Wayne Ellington hit a key 3-pointer with 2:06 left and the Tar Heels made a late surge for a 73-63 victory over BYU on Saturday night in the final of the Las Vegas Invitational. Complete Story...

Unga's Late TD Lifts No. 23 BYU 17-10

Playing with a sprained shoulder, Max Hall had one final chance to save BYU against rival Utah. All he had to do was convert on fourth-and-18 from his own 12 with barely a minute remaining. Hall scrambled to his right to buy a little time, then threw the ball as far as he could — right to teammate Austin Collie for a 49-yard gain.

Louisville Can't Handle BYU's 2 Stars

Brigham Young's two stars were more than the Cardinals could handle playing without two stars of their own. Jonathan Tavernari scored a career-high 29 points, Trent Plaisted added 21 points and 12 rebounds and BYU capitalized on No. 6 Louisville's injuries and weariness for a 78-76 victory Friday night.

BYU Does the Job by Beating Air Force

The Brigham Young players leaped and bounded off the court to a chorus of boos from the Air Force student section. It was the precise sound the Cougars wanted to hear. BYU knocked off No. 25 Air Force 62-58 on Tuesday night, ending the Falcons' 30-game winning streak at Clune Arena.

No. 19 BYU Blasts Oregon in Vegas Bowl

Brigham Young quarterback John Beck stood on the podium above a throng of blue-clad fans so dense the green field below them was barely visible. After five years of frustration and a decade of postseason futility, BYU finally had something to celebrate.

Beck Carries No. 21 BYU Past Utah 33-31

Just beating Utah for the first time in five years would have been gratifying for No. 21 Brigham Young. Winning the way the Cougars did made it a classic. John Beck scrambled away from trouble and threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Jonny Harline with no time remaining to rally BYU to a 33-31 win over Utah on Saturday.

Beck Leads BYU to 55-7 Rout of Wyoming

After going nearly five years as an unranked team, Brigham Young made an emphatic return to the Top 25. The Cougars gained 454 yards against the top-rated defense in the Mountain West Conference and clinched a share of the league title by routing Wyoming 55-7 Thursday night. BYU can win the championship outright with one more win.

The Ducks open the season with games versus Houston and then at Michigan on a jam-packed second Saturday. It could get interesting in Eugene if Bellotti and the Green and Gold don't perform. This is definitely something to keep an eye on.
