PHOENIX-SUNS

The Wire

Short-Handed Suns Lose Game 5 to Spurs

Facing elimination after a heartbreaking loss, the Phoenix Suns are conceding nothing. They believe they can win Game 6 on Friday night and bring the tense, taut series back to the desert for Game 7. Phoenix nearly won Game 5 despite playing without All-Star center Amare Stoudemire and key reserve Boris Diaw, leading most of the way before losing 88-85 Wednesday night.

Suns Top Spurs to Even NBA Series 1-1

With Kurt Thomas assigned to guard Tim Duncan one-on-one and Shawn Marion shutting down Tony Parker, the Suns squared the best-of-seven Western Conference semifinal series at a game apiece with a 101-81 victory.

Suns Sink Lakers to Win Series in 5

In the end, the Phoenix Suns had too much speed, too many free throws, and too much talent for the Los Angeles Lakers. The final game was more methodical than magnificent for the high-speed Suns on Wednesday night, a 119-110 victory that clinched the best-of-seven first-round series in five games.

Suns Run Lakers Out of Desert, 126-98

The Phoenix Suns put the pedal to the floor and left that Game 2 jinx, and the Los Angeles Lakers, buried in the dust.

Suns' Barbosa Wins Sixth Man Award

Leandro Barbosa, among the fastest players in the NBA, ran away with the league's sixth man award Monday. The "Brazilian Blur" received 101 of a possible 127 first-place votes from a media panel.

Nuggets Pummel Suns Behind Iverson's 44

Allen Iverson feels right at home just in time for the Denver Nuggets' big road trip. Iverson scored 44 points and dished out 15 assists in leading the Nuggets to their fourth straight win, a 131-107 blowout of the Phoenix Suns on Saturday night.

Suns Rise: End Mavericks' Home Dominance

When the second overtime began in a game that already had plenty of thrills, Amare Stoudemire was ready to settle things. So he went to the basket. Hard. Between points and fouls that got Dallas Mavericks starters disqualified, Stoudemire's strong start got the Phoenix Suns going toward a 129-127 victory Wednesday night in a tense, thrilling game between the league's two best teams.

'Brazilian Blur' Makes Case for 6th Man

The "Brazilian blur" keeps making his case for the NBA's sixth man of the year award. He'll get no argument from the Houston Rockets. Leandro Barbosa matched his career best with his second 32-point performance in three games and the Phoenix Suns improved to 10-1 since the All-Star break with a 103-82 rout of Houston on Monday night.

Suns Hold Back Reeling Hornets 104-103

The Phoenix Suns are 9-1 since the All-Star break and everybody is wondering what's wrong with them. That's what happens when artistic blowouts are replaced by less-than-impressive squeakers.

Uninspired Suns Still Keep Winning

The Phoenix Suns keep winning. That's about the best you can say for their uninspired effort lately. The worst came Wednesday night, when they escaped with a 115-106 overtime victory over a Charlotte team at the end of a winless six-game road trip.

Suns Hold on Against Undermanned Lakers

The Phoenix Suns usually sprint to victory. With their "mojo" severely lacking Sunday, they staggered to one. Steve Nash scored 18 of his 23 points in the second half — including two free throws with 5.4 seconds to play — and the Suns held on to beat the short-handed Los Angeles Lakers 99-94.

Nash, Amare Help Suns Roll Past Pacers

Steve Nash and Amare Stoudemire scored 23 points apiece and the Phoenix Suns easily overcame the absence of Shawn Marion to beat the Indiana Pacers for the second time in four days, 115-90 on Friday night.

Suns' Road Streak Against the East Ends

Phoenix's undefeated run through the East ended one game short of perfection. Don't make the mistake of believing Shaquille O'Neal's days of dominance are over, too.

Glitzy Suns Can Play Defense Too

The NBA's top offensive team put a defensive stranglehold on the Indiana Pacers. Steve Nash had 25 points and 11 assists and the Phoenix Suns rallied from 18 points down in the third quarter to beat the Pacers 103-92 Tuesday night. The Suns gave up just 13 points over the final 15 minutes.

Suns Continue Roughing Up the East

The Phoenix Suns are two wins away from an unprecedented sweep of their regular-season tour of the Eastern Conference. Amare Stoudemire is playing as if he's planning on more road success against the East in the postseason.

Healthy Steve Nash Sparks Suns' Offense

The Phoenix Suns are back to their high-octane offense now that Steve Nash is healthy again. Shawn Marion scored 27 points, Leandro Barbosa added 24 and Amare Stoudemire had 23 to help the Suns beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 116-104 on Friday night.

Suns Sink Celtics 118-108

The Phoenix Suns were far from their best Wednesday night, just good enough to get past the Boston Celtics.

Stoudemire Comes Up Big Against Spurs

Amare Stoudemire earned a spot on the All-Star team Thursday afternoon and validated the decision hours later. Stoudemire had 24 points and a career-high 23 rebounds as the Phoenix Suns rallied to beat the San Antonio Spurs 103-87 Thursday night.

Arenas Scores 54 to Derail Suns' Streak

The Washington Wizards are the NBA's streak-busters. The Phoenix Suns went from snowed in to snowed under by Gilbert Arenas on Friday night — and their franchise-best 15-game winning streak is history.

Mavericks Beat Suns, Advance to NBA Finals

The Mavericks made a habit of clinching playoff series on the road, and this was their biggest yet. Now Dallas is headed to the NBA finals for the first time in the franchise's 26-year history. Dirk Nowitzki shook off an awful start to lead a Mavericks' second-half comeback that beat the Phoenix Suns 102-93 on Saturday night to win the Western Conference finals 4-2.

Nowitzki Huge As Mavs Topple Suns in 4th

Dirk Nowitzki scored 50 points to carry the Mavericks to a 117-101 victory over the Phoenix Suns on Thursday night and a 3-2 lead in the Western Conference finals.

Heat Look to Finish Off Pistons Tonight

The Miami Heat look to finish off the Detroit Pistons in the NBA Eastern Conference finals tonight. The Heat lead the best-of-seven series 3 games to 1. Last night, the Phoenix Suns knotted their Western Conference final series at 2-2 with a 106-86 win over the Dallas Mavericks.

Kobe Leads the Lakers Past the Suns in OT

Kobe Bryant scored on a looping runner with seven-tenths of a second left in the fourth quarter to force overtime, and made a 17-footer as time expired to lift the Lakers to a 99-98 triumph over the Suns on Sunday. The victory also gave Los Angeles a 3-1 lead in the first-round Western Conference playoff series.

Bryant, Lakers Beat Suns to Tie Series

Just enough Kobe Bryant and a load of Lamar Odom have the Los Angeles Lakers even with the Phoenix Suns two games into the playoffs. Bryant had 29 points and 10 rebounds, Odom scored 21 and the Lakers held off a late rally to beat the cold-shooting Suns 99-93 Wednesday night and square the best-of-seven series 1-1.

Suns Beat Rockets for 7th Straight Win

Shawn Marion was surprised to learn his 30-point performance marked the first time he'd reached the mark in three straight games in his NBA career.
