Politics of Hate

I'd say that if there's anything about Newvine that stinks, it's the politics of hate, Bush-hate, which seems to be more common than actual news on Bush. This isn't unique to Newsvine either, it's pretty common throughout the blogosphere.

I just read a seed of an article about the possibility of the President having an affair. The poster posted two comments to himself adding that he'd think it was fabulous if it were true, especially because it would make his comments on the sanctity of marriage invalid.

Normally, I just ignore this kind of hate, but I couldn't resist posting a comment. This is sickness: when you hate someone so much that you fantasize about him doing bad things just so you can weaken his position. I'm not fan of Bush myself. I wasn't a fan of Kerry, Gore, Clinton, Perot, Dole, Bush Sr., or even of some of the policies of Reagan. They are all politicians and power mongers in my book, but I do not wish any of them ill.

If I can't legitimately convince others of my positions using sound argument, I don't deserve to win. Hoping my opponent will make a mistake that will weaken him and those like him, doesn't forward my position. It merely weakens my opponent. Unless I really strengthen my position, I will, sooner or later, lose. Furthermore, by promoting this kind of hate, we weaken the real political discussion in the United States, which weakens the Republic.

You want to argue? Let's argue, but stop the hate. Don't vote up haters. Vote up the legitimate news and opinions expressed here and elsewhere.
