The distant scream...

Around Noon on Tuesday, January 20, I thought I heard a distant screaming. It was faint, but just enough to catch my ear. I think it was the word "No", but can't be entirely positive.

This distant scream was followed rather closely by popping noises. It took me a bit of time to figure out what it was.

It was the sound of all the Conspiracy Theorist realizing that, yes, Obama became the 44th President of the United States of America.

Obama wasn't hauled off in handcuffs, there weren't riots in the streets, the sky did not fall, lightning didn't strike, and Chief Justice Roberts didn't ask for his long form birth certificate.

I've been lurking around some of the "birther" blogs, as I've seen them called, and I must say. These people are seriously deluding themselves. One in particular is fond of promising that "big things are coming". That if people are just patient, something will happen. And can you donate some more money?

Another "lawyer" has been flooding the Supreme Court and State Courts with unintelligible, and unreadable, motions and applications.

Other, more extreme blogs, are agitating for a new civil war.

I for one will be glad once the Supreme Court bounces all of these challenges out of the system.

What say you all?

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

One of my favorite examples of how a typical conversation can be found on Barackyphal. It ends with:

RP: "So you want to know why Obama won't take the simple measure of releasing his birth certificate, when you already have at least eight consecutive back-up arguments you'll make if he does so, whereby you'll continue to insist that he's ineligible for the Presidency even if he proves that he was born in Hawaii?"

Birther: "Right."

RP: "Y'know, if I were Obama, I think I'd save my ten dollars too."

You must read the whole thing. It's great.

LadySaidy,

How do you do it??? I read three lines of that stuff and I have to bail... It's not good for my BP...

I for one will be glad once the Supreme Court bounces all of these challenges out of the system.

I am pretty sure there will be an endless supply of kooks... If Obama is able to turn this disaster the Republicans left us around then much of it will fade... most, but not all, of them will be too embarrassed to keep up this hoo ha... But if he can't turn the tide, or worse yet if there is some sort of terrorist attack, they will be right back chanting "we told you so"...

Then there are people like this guy.  Glad to see that his claims of "big things" were just bluster (but not surprised).

Still, I admit to being a little nervous every time Obama and Michelle got out of that limo.

I know exactly what you're saying, spiffie.  I held my breath every time they got out to walk along the parade route.

I shouldn't admit to this, though.  I'm sure it makes all the crackpots laugh that they have this "power".

Sigh, I guess there will always be nut jobs.

I think I hear some more screams...

The application for stay addressed to Justice Scalia and referred to the Court is denied.

And the reason it was denied:

It's obvious they are afraid that Phil has strong evidence. Why wouldn't they just hear it? If it was a weak case, they can just rule against Phil.
I don't get why the Gov't is allowing this. What's the motive?

Yep. The case is way too strong...

For anyone that would like to read the filings that Phil Berg has made, you can find them here on his blog.

I will let you decide, gentle reader, if the evidence is "strong".

I saw that spiffie. I'm trying not to respond. I need to wait until I get home since the net nanny here at work blocks the site s/he linked to.

I figured rather than do the full point-by-point again I'd see if anything developed with the challenge I made the first sentence of the article.  We'll see if it's someone actually interested in discussion or just someone astroturfing the link.
