Brandon May's Mavs Land Musings

Apologies All Around

So here's the deal. The holidays have been pretty hectic for me. I've been busy at the store selling swing sets and furniture at Wooden Swing.

3 Cheers: Mavs 100, Rockets 94

I started watching this game at 9:00 pm CST, and fell asleep. I woke up at 3:00 am CST, and ESPN was showing it on repeat so I got to watch the rest of the game. Hard to question my dedication, huh? The Rockets and Spurs are the Mavs big, in-state rivals.

3 Cheers: Mavs 105, Raptors 99

So why is it that when a team from another country, Toronto, comes to town, it's more of a homecoming than any other team in the league? Chris Bosh is a Dallas boy, born and raised. T.J. Ford is a Houston boy and played at Texas.

3 Cheers: Mavs 108, Grizzlies 105

I feel sorry for the Grizzlies, I really do. 2 years ago, when they were swept out of the playoffs by the Mavs on their way to the Finals, the Grizzlies were a 5 seed. Last year, they were the worst team in the league, but they couldn't win the lottery for Oden or Durant.

3 Cheers: Mavs 105, Spurs 92

Nothing like a good Mavs/Spurs tussle on national television to get the blood boiling. Too bad it's early November and not late March or April. But a win is a win, especially against the defending champs. 3 Cheers: Mavs 105, Spurs 92

3 Cheers: Mavs 99, Sixers 84

Ahh, the Sixers. There's nothing like when Allen Iverson comes to town. Wait. Never mind. I meant the other A.I. (Andre Iguodala). Good enough, right? Good enough for a Mavs victory at least. 3 Cheers: Mavs 99, Sixers 84

3 Cheers: Blazers 91, Mavs 82

Another late night start, another fortunately Tivoed game. In this case, I was able to stay up late enough to watch it from start to finish, but don't question my dedication.

3 Cheers: Mavs 120, Warriors 115

Man, I hate those late start times on TNT. I Tivoed the game, thankfully, because I started to watch this, but they didn't tip off until 10:00 CST. I fell asleep before that, on the couch, with my notepad in hand.

NBA's Best: The Current Era

For those of you reading this on brandonmay.com, here's a quick explanation. I post a lot of my stuff from my Mavs blog on a site called Newsvine. Since I'm kind of a big deal, I've made a few mutual NBA friends.

3 Cheers: Mavs 107, Rockets 98

What a night! The Mavs and Rockets have the night all to themselves, if you don't count Monday Night Football, a 2-hour Prison Break, my wife watching her season opener of Amazing Race, the Bachelor and The Hills, and a very special episode of Dora the Explorer Saves the Mermaid …

3 Cheers: Mavs 123, Kings 102

So I'm watching this game while simultaneously watching my daughter. Don't worry, the knives are dull. I tested them out before I taught her to juggle. Duh! What kind of idiot do you take me for? Anyway, she's fine.

3 Cheers: Hawks 101, Mavs 94

I had to watch this on Tivo because we were out to dinner with some friends. As it turns out, I missed all the good stuff before I got home and found out the final score. It's okay, though.

3 Cheers: Mavs 92, Cavs 74

Halloween night. I had to come home and watch this game on Tivo at about 10:00 because I was taking my daughter out to trick or treat for the first time ever.

Dream vs. Reality: Mavs Preview

Dream: The Mavs are allowed to forgo the regular season and immediately start the playoffs, when all their doubts and justification will come to bear.

3 Cheers: Mavs Final Preseason Game

It was the final preseason game of the year for the Mavs, and The Dude was in attendance. Since the Mavs have a week in between this game and the season opener, I was treated to a full dress rehearsal. Here's what I saw: Mavs 96, Bulls 88

No, No, No

Quickly, I'd like to weigh in on the whole Kobe to the Mavs situation: No, No and Hell No. We don't need a team wrecker

Campaign Trail

I'm not above campaigning. I'm not above compromising. And I'm not above shameless self-promotion. What does that mean? It means the Dude wants to make a Mavs Land Musings dream come true this year, and I think I know just the way to do it. The Campaigning

Mr. Dude Goes To Austin

Sorry it's been a while. I've been very busy with work and quite frankly, when the biggest question mark for the Mavs offseason is whether we will start a 35-year-old or a 33-year-old, the stories are stingier than the folks that hand out ketchup packets at McDonald's.

3 Cheers: Almost Time

The Dallas Mavericks start training camp on Tuesday, October 2nd, and suddenly this painfully long offseason seems to be coming to a close. If only Mark Cuban can finish stronger than the Mavs did.

Dissecting An Interview

Recently, Avery Johnson sat down with Dallas Morning News Mavs beat writer Eddie Sefko for a little pre-training camp 10 questions. Even more recently, I sat down to dissect the answers. It's easier and cleaner than dissecting a frog so I figured what the hell?

My Imaginary Interview With Bruce Bowen

Good evening, I'm Brandon May. My alter ego, The Dude, recently sat down with Bruce Bowen for a completely fake interview to discuss everything from last season's championship run to the proper way to ruin another player's career. Here's how it went. Dude: Hello, Bruce.

  • Is Television Dead? (a Newsvine Poll)

I did not expect tonight to be the last episode of Heroes. Why would such an excellent program end before Christmas? After all of the critical acclaim, was some executive idiotic enough to cancel one of my favorite programs? No, I'm not the only person who likes this show.

  • Donaghy's Dirty Dozen: Week 5 Recap

Only three teams in the league are over .500 for the year at this point. Relative domination by the top two (Garnett's Aneurism and Da Nerdy 5) has left the rest of the league scrambling for answers on the waiver wire. Who will be able to right the ship? Only time will tell.
