Joe Concha called out many of his colleagues in the press for fawning over the sister of North Korea dictator Kim Jong Un at the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
Kim Yo Jong has received positive headlines from CNN, The New York Times, Reuters and other media outlets, while North Korea's human rights abuses -- including the detention of several American citizens -- are largely ignored.
On "Happening Now" on Monday, The Hill's media reporter pointed out that Kim Yo Jong has a title in the North Korean government: vice director of the propaganda and agitation department.
Concha said it's dangerous for the media to praise her and declare that North Korea is "winning the Olympics," "stealing the show" or taking the "diplomatic gold" without giving any context.
"It's why critics ... are slamming not just The New York Times, CNN, Reuters, ABC, NBC, you could go on and on. This is across the board of glamorizing somebody like this, who, again, runs propaganda and couldn't ask for any better press if she wanted from the U.S. media," Concha said.
If you hate US leaders more than you hate the Kim Jong-un regime, you really need to read up on North Korea.

I am deeply saddened by how my profession has normalized and glamorized this murderous regime.

the headline here doesn't tell the story, as it's written. it's a shame because it does a disservice to the 7 people who put it together. https://t.co/RTPw1ELurr

I can report South Koreans here in Pyeongchang are not as enthralled with Kim Yo Jong and the North Korean cheerleaders as it seems some media are back home.
Something about N.K. killing, starving, & imprisoning its people while threatening South Korea with nuclear annihilation.— Willie Geist (@WillieGeist) February 11, 2018
Kim YO Jong, Lil Sis of Lil Kim, is "stealing show" according to CNN. She's probably stealing food and electricity to take back to her starving and sitting w/o lights people. CNN has no shame or awareness of NOKO human rights abuses.

He suggested that the fawning coverage could be attributed to the ancient proverb "the enemy of my enemy is my friend."
"A lot of Trump supporters see the U.S. media taking the side of North Korea over the U.S., the administration, Mike Pence," Concha said.
