President Donald Trump blasted the Democratic candidate in the race to fill Tennessee's open U.S. Senate seat during a rally in support of Republican candidate Marsha Blackburn.

Blackburn, a sitting congresswoman representing part of Middle Tennessee, praised Trump's agenda when the president invited her on stage to speak.

Trump ripped former Gov. Phil Bredesen Jr. (D-Tenn.) as an "absolute total tool of Chuck Schumer."

"He's a tool," Trump repeated, ripping Bredesen, who is challenging Blackburn for the seat being vacated by Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.).

Trump said Bredesen, who preceded current Gov. Bill Haslam (R-Tenn.), was recruited by Schumer (D-N.Y.) -- the Senate minority leader -- and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

"If Bredesen were ever to get elected, he'd do whatever Chuck and Nancy [say]," Trump said. "Phil, whatever his name is, will 100 percent vote against us every single time."

Trump added that Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) "got screwed" in the 2016 presidential election, borrowing a nickname from radio host Rush Limbaugh and labeling him "Crazy Bernie."

He said that Hillary Clinton, who bested Sanders in the Democratic primary, was hurt because she brought perceptively unsavory supporters with her on the campaign trail.

Trump said one of those surrogates who appeared with Clinton on the campaign trail was rapper Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter.

"His language was so filthy that it made me look like the most clean-cut human being on Earth," Trump remarked of Jay-Z's remarks at an Ohio rally for Clinton during the campaign.
