Recently, in West Virginia a horrendous news story broke of the vicious assault, torture, rape, and kidnapping of 20 year old Megan Williams. Some of the vile things she was subjected to include: being forced to lick up blood, cuts to her ankles, stab wounds, she was forced to drink out of a toilet, choked, raped, and even forced to eat animal feces.
In protest of this horrid event, a rally in Megan Williams honor was scheduled for November 3rd at the West Virginia Capitol building and then afterward a march to the Robert C. Byrd Federal Courthouse. However, what really made the event stand out was the scheduled appearance of Reverend Al Sharpton.
Then came a twist. Sharpton, who was scheduled to appear and address the rally-goers and attend the march, never showed up, nor did he send any indication as to why. Over 2 days have passed since the rally and march and there has still been no word from Sharpton or any of his people as to why he never showed.
I'm beginning to think Al Sharpton has an agenda. I respect Al Sharpton. This is a man who stands up for rights of the minorities and people who are affected by hate crimes all over the nation. However, how can I respect a man that gives his word that he will show up for a woman that was submitted to this possibly hate-charged torture and then not show or give ant indication as to why?
My theory is this: Sharpton may be in this, and a lot of other things for that matter, for publicity and the news accompaniment that comes with it. Sure, the story of Megan Williams made the news, but only for a short while, but eventually it began to die down, and that's why Sharpton dropped out without a word. There were bigger fish for him to fry, and dealing with a rally no one was talking about anymore that he promised to attend wasn't important anymore. (To him.)
Publicity, publicity, publicity. Is that all your in it for Al? It looks that way, and until you prove otherwise I no longer respect you.
Not a word from the man regarding his no-show. I honestly thought he was better than that.
Welcome to the real world.
I'm losing respect for a lot of people. Even NBC as a whole. Did you see the SNF half-time show yesterday? They turned out all the lights in the room they were talking in and lit it only by candles. Except for a HUGE Plasma Screen TV behind them where they showed a live interview with Matt Lauer who was in the Arctic circle, and a live interview with Al Roker at the equator to raise awareness of global warming.
How stupid. They flew a guy to the Arctic circle in probably a private jet and farted out I don't know how many carbon emissions, to help solve global warming. WTF?!
Brandon, I admire your, er, passion.
Passion is my 30th name! Right behind honest, civil, righteous, amazing, cool, funny, and, well... you get the point.
No question about that, Brandon! I hear ya! In fact, we all can hear ya.
Guess I need better earplugs.
Jus' kiddin'. :-)
Earplugs? You're in luck! Just so happens that my 54th name, I reckon I can spare 'em to you for a while.
;P
Brandon, it is my considered opinion that the majority of people on the national stage who bray about how much they "care" only care when money is involved.
And you're right about the TV "global warming" stunt.
Al Sharpton is a typical poliotician with big ambitions.
Sharpton definitely only shows up where the biggest headlines are. He's not in it for minorities, he's in it for himself. Minorities are simply means to an end for him.
