Ernie Fletcher, the republican incumbent of the Kentucky governors race, may be out of a job tomorrow. Steve Beshear, his democratic rival is harnessing many of the votes and wrapping up his win.
In a just released update, Beshear held a dominating 61% of the vote while Fletcher lagged with 39%. Unfortunately for Fletcher, there have been very few reports of problems regarding the election, leaving there little hope for him to bounce back. 67% of the voting precincts have submitted their totals and nearly all showing a democratic win.
If this election serves up a democratic win in a mostly republican state has shake up potential; that could turn it into a possible swing state in the upcoming 2008 presidential election.
I expected it to be a little closer than this but what happens, happens.
Most people in my family didn't vote, because "they didn't feel right voting for either of them". Not a good sign.
Update
Beshear's lead has dropped by 2 points leaving it 59 - 41. This may be close after all.
Update
The AP reports that democrat Steve Beshear has won the Ky Governor race.
However, not all precincts have reported their results, only 86%. The tides could change.
Update
91% of precincts have submitted their results and no change so far in the percentage for each candidate. It appears Beshear has it won.
No change in the polls but 95% have turned in results. I'd say it's over.
Update
Beshear won with a 59% total over Fletcher with a 41% total. All precincts have turned in their totals and it's official.
Good job, Brandon.
Thanks!
Any buzz as to the reason of the shift?
The republican to democrat shift?
Not for sure. Although Ky usually votes republican in presidential elections, I just recently learned that Fletcher was the 1st republican governor of Ky in 30 years. So perhaps their wasn't really a shift per say, but it could still possibly make Kentucky into a key state for the presidential election.
