Facebook: More Popular Than Porn

It seems that social-networking sites have not only usurped porn in popularity, but they've also gobbled up time Gen Y-ers used to spend on traditional e-mail and IM. When you can reach all of your friends through Facebook or MySpace, there's little reason to spend time in your old-school inbox. So, if social networking is becoming e-mail 2.0, then perhaps Microsoft's recent $240 million dollar payout for such a small stake in Facebook isn't that ridiculous.

Maybe I'm getting a little old, but it kind of bothers me when my best friend sends me a message on Facebook rather than an actual email. :)

I think it's true - people spend so much time on facebook, it's ridiculous. I can't even tell you how many offices I've walked by and looked in the office and seen the undergrad worker surfing facebook! hahaha

I think for a lot of people, they are just sick of email and spam... sure there are good serivces and filters and gmail.. these days.. but i think a lot of people have a sour taste in their mouths.
email has 100 vigra ads
email has that virus that destroyed my computer before
etc
I know many that dont email anymore.. they say because im is convientant but i think they also dont like scrolling through spam to find the real letters.

good point - spam, viruses, etc are ridiculous. My mom couldn't handle it anymore so I helped her get gmail. Maybe I should just get her facebook!

Yes, I agree. I just lost three months of emails on my computer due to a virus, and no matter how much time I devote to clearing my Inbox, I can never quite keep up with it because of spam. And instead of getting random personal emails mixed in with all the rest of the email, it's nice to be able to keep up with all facets of people's lives on sites like Facebook. Sharing photos, activities, etc., in one place is very convenient, especially when friends and family live great distances and you aren't able to see them very often. As email goes, I too am making the switch to gmail for official business because of the tagging feature to keep them organized, and to preserve a back-up of my emails online.
