As the scientist said in the interview, all science and technology can be used for good or bad.

But, I think that the most important thing he said was the proper protocols need to be in place, else it will certainly be misused. I think the first place/industry we'll see this in is the insurance industry. People will begin to get denied insurance or face high premiums not because they're sick, but because they're pre-disposed to being sick of a certain disease.

.. only if you believe in a god.

However, once the genie is out and the possibility is there, someone somewhere will do it - for good or for bad.

You are certainly right about that Thura. I don't think they're playing God. Anyhow, they're speculating that it will work and hoping it can be done.

BTW, I happen to be a believer in God.

Actually the title of the video (from the Yahoo vid) kinda gets to me because it looks like they are trying to provoke a reaction. And I am sure a few will rise to the occasion. Like someone once said, 'it is all about context,' and the newspiece wasn't even about religion.

The headline could easily have been that a scientist has created a new form of life - like you did.

Boring. A new random chromosome stuck into the genome? Who cares if the inserted chromosome is made artificially or comes from another species, as has been done for decades. I was expecting to read about a whole new organism.
