New Hints Seen That Red Wine May Slow Aging

Red wine may be much more potent than was thought in extending human lifespan, researchers say in a new report that is likely to give impetus to the rapidly growing search for longevity drugs.

The study is based on dosing mice with resveratrol, an ingredient of some red wines. Some scientists are already taking resveratrol in capsule form, but others believe it is far too early to take the drug, especially using wine as its source, until there is better data on its safety and effectiveness.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

I CAN UNDERSTAND GETTING RESVERATROL IN CAPSULE FORM BUT THE ONLY ADVANTAGE OF THAT IS POSSIBLE INCREASED LONGEVITY. THERE IS OF COURSE A"YES BUT" FACTOR IN THAT CONSIDERING THE STATE OF THE WORLD. HOWEVER, GETTING IT IN THE FORM OF RED WINE, WELL THAT PROVIDES DOUBLE BENEFIT: THE WORLD LOOKS JUST A BIT ROSIER, AND OH YES, ONE MANY BE AROUND LONGER TO ENJOY IT! MY CHOICE WOULD BE CHIANTI OR BURGUNDY.

BY THE WAY ZAP, YOUR NICE OFFER TO HELP ME GET STARTED ON THE VINE WAS VERY NICE. I HAVE BEEN STUMBLING ABOUT AND ALTHOUGH I HAVE HAD A GLIMPSE OF THE DARK SIDE OF FOLKS--THAT'S CONTENT OF COURSE, I HAVE ALSO MANAGED TO SEE THE LIGHT SIDE AND TO BOOT, I HAVE EVEN MANAGED TO SEED ONE COLUMN -- I GUESS THAT'S WHAT IT'S CALLED AND THERE IS ALREADY ONE COMMENT: MY OWN!

Hello Zap,

I get lost so easily on the vine! You just made a recommendation that I check into a column. I believe it was Krishna and I tried but I got into all sorts of things not resembling what you suggested. Please tell me where and howl. I said I'm still stumbling.

No problem. When you are on the Newsvine home page look on the left-hand side of the page. You will see the heading BACKYARD and a list of items under it. Click on LEADERBOARD. Then scroll down to Krishna, #16.
