The Science of Woo Woo : Healing and Healers

The authors recruited eleven healers who claimed to establish some sort of connection between themselves and patients that could promote healing at a distance. Each healer paired herself with one person to be the recipient of her mind outreach efforts, someone with whom she already felt a special bond.

What's this?
Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Do you think this is similar to prayer?

Yes Angel, I do think that it is similar to prayer. Thank you for the seed. It is a wonderful phenomena that does not require any machinery to have success. Our minds are powerful beyond belief.

Sounds like a cross between prayer and also meditation to me.

However the name....Makes me think of Poo-poo....sorry...

I hate the name woo-woo -- it is both cutesy and dismissive.
But there were similar studies done not that long ago into the effect of prayer for medical patients. And those who were prayed for, and I might add that they did not know that they were being prayed for, had a better outcome on all measures than those who were not. 'Better' meaning shorter hospital stays, fewer complications, whatever. Am working on a reaction to a Psych Today story and another one from The Secret website (in one story combined). Stay tuned.
People can be healed and heal themselves -- and I mean completely healed not merely feel better while living with whatever condition.

I'm familiar with the Larry Dossey studies. Thanks for the further updates.
