Introducing: In-article brand images for Photographers

After many months of collaboration and design, Newsvine Photographers is excited to introduce to its members brand imaging to include in their articles.  This imaging is intended to replace the 'This article was produced for foto-friday / weekend-exposure...' disclosure the group guidelines required on all articles published on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Why is it called a brand? This little stick figure drawing means something.  It's the culture and promise around what the Photographers community has come to represent.

This absolutely would have not been possible without the cooperation of those attending the virtual-vinemeet and especially not without MalamuteMan, who ultimately did the final design work and had to deal with the whims of a crazed group administrator.  Thank you.

Creating and maintaining a brand is a very complex matter.  Most brands fail.  They demand "courage, money, determination, originality, creativity and an infinite capacity to take pains."  One difficulty brand managers face, brands cannot be conjured and have to come from reality; they very much happen organically.  The employees [all of you] are the brand.  These images were created to start building upon a foundation you built.  Let us continue forth.

Instructions

For the imaging to be most effective, it should be at the top of the article.  The small square icon is meant to be placed at the bottom  and also for articles not posted on Friday or the weekend.  Each image should link to the group front page, filtered by the tag.  These are the proper links:

http://photographers.newsvine.com/foto-friday

http://photographers.newsvine.com/weekend-exposure

It is important to keep this consistent.  Administrators can and do miss things.  If you notice a bad or improper link, kindly inform the author.  Everyone forgets once in awhile, so let us keep each other in check.  It is much appreciated.

Previously published are a few example articles with instructions on how to use the 'brave new editor' to manipulate the brand imaging's placement.  Below are links to those articles, with instructions of how to accomplish all three.  Example 2 is probably the easiest but it is recommended you experiment with the other two techniques (it's not as hard as you think!)

Example 1

Example 2

Example 3

If you would like to use these images in your articles, send me an email.  It is recommended you create a 'Newsvine Photographers' folder on your desktop and download these files there so you always know where they are located.

If you have any problems with any of these layouts or need some further guidance, come to a virtual-vinemeet.  If you can't make one of those, send an email to photographers.newsvine.com@gmail.com, letting us know when you'd be available and the admins will do their best to accommodate.

Thanks for bearing with us!

They demand "courage, money, determination, originality, creativity and infinite capacity to take pains."

Yup. It took some money. GoToMeeting was immense resource on this project and most certainly will be on others. And yes, I have the infinite capacity to take pains - still on Newsvine, aren't I? ;)

I'm taking the rest of the night off guys. Going to pay attention to the poor ignored dog and veg out on the couch and probably watch Darker than Black. Thanks for your support, I really appreciate everything you all have done for me and each other. It's rather awesome.

It IS rather awesome Ben. Let me add my many thanks to those of the others. This has been a very new experience for me and you have all been so kind and patient. I know how much effort goes into training someone especially when it comes to you with such ease. I don't mean the work you put in: I mean the understanding of things that are over others heads.

Truly: Thank You

Well we appreciate all you have done for us Ben! You have created a great group here!!!! One that many people enjoy and learn from. This is not your average Newsvine group! People really DO get smarter here!

You deserve the to have the night off, friend!

[Mal drags a bowl of bacon chips over to share with Ben... Pours a Becks into his empty water bowl... and flops down next to the couch to veg out with Ben and Coda...]

Hey Coda... I'm not sure you wanna drink out of that bowl...

You have my thanks, too, Ben! And thanks to Mal as well! I think the brands have turned out really well.

I decided to skip the Forgotten Flem (too lazy to get off the couch) and opted instead of watch The Cabinet of Dr Caligari - the original 1920 silent film - what interesting sets!

Thanks for all the great work! I think it makes the article page look really neat and clean, plus it's easier to remember what all goes where on the page :)

Ben would you send me the banner for the photo-challenge (September) please. I posted one but, my "save photo" did not work. :)

Download the images to your computer by right clicking on them and saving them.

Tried it... They all come up as "imagesizer.jpg" but are recognized as scripts that I do not allow on my system.

When right clicking on the images, is everyone doing a "Save Picture As..." rather than a "Save Target As..."? The save picture option should save the file as a .jpg in your Pictures directory. When I did it, I did have to rename the files though as they all came up with the same name in the save file dialog box.

Yeah, I guess downloading them from Newsvine is not the best way to go about it. Send me an email and I will mail you the files. Will update the article...

Well, I plan to push the group forward more, so hopefully we impress you even more. Next on the agenda, I believe, is the creation of some themed headers, all collaboration-like.
