England 6-15 South Africa

South Africa ended England's reign as world champions in Paris as they claimed their second World Cup victory.

Three Percy Montgomery penalties to one from Jonny Wilkinson saw South Africa, who won the group match between the two 36-0, lead 9-3 at the break.

A penalty apiece made it 12-6 before Francois Steyn edged the Boks further ahead with a long-range penalty.

England went desperately close to a try through Mark Cueto but South Africa held out to match their 1995 triumph.

Excellent! I couldn't stand it if England had won again.

Well done the 'Boks. A superbly solid display against a determined England side.

Not the most exciting final you'll ever see, but some great, physical rugby played by both side. In the end it was decided by the strength of the South African line-out and some superb kicking by Percy Montgomery.

Well done England though. Nobody expected England to even make it to the semi-final, so to make it this far - and to give the 'Boks such a close game - is one hell of an achievement.
