Should we legalize all drugs?
Should we? What do you think about this law?Express your opinion.
I do agree with your topic title however I do not believe that we should ban rehab clinics. That sounds inherently cruel and ridiculous. A lot of people do want to get back up on their feet and need the help, if they have nowhere to go to then there will be no progress for those who wish to better themselves. Everyone can make poor life choices and that does not mean they can not have a second chance. The benefits of this law, however, would be countless. The Mexican mafia and organized crime would go down the drain which would mean less murder and crime in our nation and other nations. It would also be easier to finally go after those responsible. We could also openly place more restrictions as well as provide more knowledge on the drugs so that way people will be more educated and informed on these drugs rather than simply told "drugs are bad". When you are more informed, you are more likely to make a wiser decision.
What about the children? Haha. But in all seriousness what about the kids of drug addicts? Screw em? I know a few people who had abusive meth head parents, luckily the law came in and took them them away from their folks and their lives improved as a result. Should it be legal to shoot up heroin? Maybe. Should it be legal to shoot up when you're the only person watching a child? Hell no!
I'm totally fine treating drugs the EXACT same way we treat alcohol in the US. Legalize it, regulate it, tax it. I've never understood the idea that what I do in the privacy of my own home is against the law in a "free" country. As long as I'm not selling meth to the kids or passed out on my front lawn for the neighbors to see, what business is it of the government's to tell me I can't do something?
Yes. | |
That's my position as well. And I do believe that danger of drug addiction is overblown.
I'll say marijuana only, but drugs like meth, cocaine, heroine, etc shouldn't be legalized in any way. It's bad enough we have cigarettes legalized and it's harmful as is, yet I think the US really doesn't want to allow the use of extremely harmful drugs. Meth is as dangerous as you can get, the stuff is made out of household junk, why would anyone want to see that be legal?
at some point maybe that will happen guess those people who claimed that society would destroy itself might be true, but who cares about society right?
That's assuming the legal status is what's preventing large portion of the population from doing drugs. I don't believe that's true. Take a look at cigarettes, decreasing amount of people are smoking despite the fact that it's always been legal. I think that due to the overwhelmingly negative image society already associate of these drugs, legalizing them wouldn't actually increase their user base by a significant amount.
Daz is correct on this. Initially, a large amount of people will probably try things that they were too afraid to try because of the legal status of drugs. Yet, if drugs become widely available (assuming the law will allow for drug sales...which it won't), people will probably say "What's all this hubbub about meth? I think I'll give it a try." For the first few years, drug use will probably be higher than normal. Yet, once people see the affects of drugs first hand, and not through word of mouth or commercials, they'll quickly turn away from it. Sure it's legal, but do I really want to do that to myself? And, with it being legal, those addicted to it will be more willing to seek help to break their addictions because they know they won't go to jail. I'm all for 100% legalization. If not that, I'll take decriminalization over nothing at all.
No, because meth and cocaine are severe. I think they need to HELP people, opposed to damaging them for life. If you don't have kids, you won't ever understand. You ever seen breaking bad? When Jesse when over to get his payment and to scare the couple that robbed him? He decided not to care after he realized how fucked the situation the child was in? They cared more about METH, opposed to feeding their child. I don't think Marijuana should be illegal. Then again, have you ever listened to people that abused marijuana? They sound like they're fucking retarded.
That's the point, if you legalize drugs such as meth, cocaine, heroine etc. you cut off source of income and activity for criminals in the US, Mexico. Drug-related violence would go down in areas here as well as below the border, which is arguably one of the most fucked places on the planet right now. Even my grandpa, who was from a generation where drugs are seen as the ultimate low-life activity, had seen the consequences of the war on drugs. It's not just people in our country affected by it, definitely a thing that has to change because it'll do more and more damage every generation. Not saying their won't be addicts and abusers, it's already seen with prescriptions, but there's no reason to continue the mass violence that goes on in a country that neighbors us, it's our problem as much as it is theirs.
Fictional example aside, have you ever considered the possibility that those people are going to be fucked up regardless of legal status of drugs? I believe addiction is predominately the trait of the individuals, not the drugs. Using your meth example, not everyone who try meth will end up like extreme cases of meth addiction, and likelihood is meth isn't the sole cause of their problem; they are prone to subsistence abuse whether subsistence is meth or cocaine or alcohol.
It's not a fictional example... this shit happens all the time. Also... you're an idiot if you're willing to take Meth. It's widespread even if you try heroin or meth. You'll be instantly addicted.

While heroin and meth are highly addictive, I've seen plenty of people who've tried it and aren't addicted nor have the desire to go back. Like what CPTd4z said, it's all about the person, their situation, and most importantly their genes. I tried amphetamine back when I was young and never fucked around again, but I do have to watch for alcohol because of the long line of alcoholics in my family tree. Plus heroin is way more addictive and you can actually die from quitting cold turkey, that and alcohol are the only ones to do that. It's really tricky because alcoholism is a serious issue so I don't doubt that legal drugs would be any different, it's just the problems it'll help far outweigh the problems it'll create. People already have legal drugs, your doctors all got em, they know your "condition" is bullshit too. No disrespect to people with actual conditions, but lets be real, most people getting their prescriptions are looking for that kick to get them through each day.
Nope, that's a myth. Like I stated, it's more likely that people are genetically predisposed to be addicts.
Soft drugs? Sure, I guess. Hard drugs? Not so much. Then again I've done like 2 quick google searches on the topic so my opinion is pretty much worthless
